Having a bad day, my Cobra found a ditch

Not coin related just a lesson learned to share, never park you car without the Emergency Brake on, especially a Performance Red Cobra with only 256 Made, This happened to me yesterday morning, I guess it jumped out of gear and went for a ride all by itself, about 2 grand of damage to bumper and subframe. I'm still feeling sick at my stomache.

If it were my car that went into the ditch I would have said I was doing a big ol' smokey burnout and a small furry animal came in front of the car so I avoided it and put it into a ditch. image

come to Houston sometime and I will give ya a little race. image

This is why I drive a 3/4 ton GMC pickup with an automatic. It would have gone right through that ditch. image

That's a shame. I was expecting blue with white stripes and leg pipes. I guess I'm stuck in the "give it a LOT of gas and it REALLY goes" era.

No that is OK I think this car is fast enough for him. image

Thats ashame about your car. I can attest to how nice it was, as I have ssen it in person when you were stationed here.

    Tough Luck,

You can still sell me that 04-o Morgan to help with repair costs, the one that is a lock upgrade!

  • That is a shame. I am waiting for the new body styled Cobras to come out (1 1/2 years from now or so, SVT is redoing the Cobra and Lightning drive-tranes and such, so will be a little while after the new mustang is available). Then it'll be time to trade in the Durango. Gonna be one hell of a ride. I went the SUV route, from a B.A. Mark VIII LSC (who got some tornado damage and I traded her in then), from a T-Top Mustang GT, but am ready to get back into gearheading. Thought I outgrew it, but I guess not. Your misfortune just reminded me of all of that. Now, I feel like crap too. lol. Hope she turns out well when you get her fixed. Hey sorry to hear bout that. i nearly bought one just like that. ya know now-a-days new cars are that expensive very fast. unlike my monte carlo. its all metal and i feel might be able to take more of a joy ride than the newer plastic and fiberglass cars. doesnt look too bad though . subframe will get ya in the end.

I believe the transmission was manufactured by Borg Warner ~ my 85 GT had a T5 that sheared half of the teeth off going for third ~ another time, I punched the dash when the shifter bolts sheared off going for fifth (replaced with grade 8) ~ the plastic self adjuster for the clutch stripped twice and left it undriveable (replaced with alum. aftermarket) ~ the clutch pedal broke at the weld on the pedal cluster ~ this was the good mustang of the two I had (NOS couldn't have had anything to do with it)

the 93 spent most of it's first six months in the shop ~ rebuilt rear end at 1400 miles (hard spot in gear caused a whine) ~ an incomplete roof weld caused the paint to split on the right front corner until it was fixed ~ other than that, it was a great car ~ sold it and bought a Toyota Truck

Bummer man. That is one sweet 'stang and will be again. Nothing that can't be fixed.

I put my 1995 Integra GSR in a ditch but on purpose. Hit an ice patch after a blind curve and avoided 2 cars in the road - put it in a ditch and smashed the front into a tree. While I was at a nearby house calling my boss on the phone to say I would be late to work, another car came around the turn, lost control, went into the ditch, rear ended my car, popped out of the ditch and broadsided the cop car that had shown up to sort things out! That lady had a worse day than me. The cop had just got his car back from the body shop that week from a previous accident. The good news for me was that the rear end damage totalled the car, and the insurance company screwed up the model year and I was paid MORE than I paid for the car new and it had 18,000 miles on it! A good ending to a really bad day.

I put my '73 Chevy into a big pile of mud a few weeks ago. I put the hubs in, and pushed a lever forward and drove out of it. (best $1,500 I ever spent)

My best friend has one of those Cobra's with only 1,500 miles. The one he replaced, he drove, those are fun cars. I feel for you as no one wants this to happen.

Hey, I spent a lot of time with these guys from the tech boom. They had a motto "Nothing money won't fix". I guess it applies here too.

my guess as well (very minute whine yet there just the same) ~ the dealer was probably slow that week and knew Ford would pick up the tab image btw, it was cheaper to replace the whole rear end axle to axle than to rebuild it but Ford only allowed the to rebuild it supposedly
