Hey folks, just wanted to introduce myself since I have joined PSA and the message boards. Took me a long time to decide to do so but I am glad I finally have, now just need to decide which cards to send in first! See you around.

Welcome aboard! I am relatively new myself... but let me say that I hope you find the boards (and the great collectors and characters alike) as interesting as I have found it to be.
Hope to see you post often.
BTW, what do you collect? Share some of your collecting stories with us!

I am fairly spread out in what I collect how ever not as bad as I had been at one time. Over all I consider myself a rookie card collector. In particular autographed rookie cards. From that beginning, I have narrowed the products I buy almost exclusively to Bowman/Topps Chrome products. Doesnt break the bank per box, get 1 auto per box and plus alot of other rookie cards I get to watch over the years and see how they do.
From that beginning I have found myself starting to undertake collecting a few sets. I currectly only have 1 completed but I will list them for you all.
1. 1997 Bowman Chrome International Set. ~ (long way to go on this one, maybe half way complete, probably the set I want completed the most, I love the look of those cards, probably the best looking set of cards ever IMO)
2.1999 Bowman Chrome ~ (Set completed, how ever it is a "mutt" set. Mix of all the different variations of cards, refractors, gold, internationals..ect will eventually weed it down to just the plain versions of each card, but in no rush)
3.2000 SPX ~ ( this comes from I use to buy ALOT of UD product up untill late 2001 so I have all the base set and about 65 percent of the auto rookies so I figured this set will be what I am working on for year 2000. Not a priority set, but for sure one I do plan on finishing some day, biggest card I still need for this is the Zito rc.)
4.2001 Bowman Chrome ~ (This set is giving me some fits. I have the Pujols, have had for some time now, ad I have 7 other of the auto's. I have the english Ichiro, so still missing about 7 autos, plus the japanese version Ichiro. Davenport is giving me some trouble to track down, he is the auto I am mainly ater now since he is the next highest priced one, but someone keeps paying outrageously high prices for him on Ebay and I am not as of yet willing to go that high. Aside from those cards I am missing about 5 other common cards from the set. )
5. 2004 Topps Chrome ~ ( I have Series 1 complete along with the regular version autos. I am currently woring on getting the black border versions of the auto rookies now and will get series 2 as well most likely)
Starting with 1997 I would like to have 1 set from each year, my plan is to collect a bowman chrome set each odd year, 97, 99, 01 and on even years do something different and hopefully less costly for variety sake and cost sake.
After 2001 I took a 2 year break away from collecting simply because cash was tight and had alot going on and I just could not really enjoy the hobby. Just started back again about 3 months ago actually.
Despite the fact that I am mainly only a collector of baseball, I do somewhat collect key cards from basketball and football. Again primarily rookie/auto cards. I have bought a pretty nice LeBron James card off Ebay shortly after starting up again. ( I am amazed by that kid) and in the off chance I would get a nice high end auto rookie of him I talked myself into purchasing 1 box of SPA and what do you know, I actually pulled his auto rookie. That was less then 3 weeks ago. Best pull of my life!
That basically sums it up for me. I collect for myself and I collect somewhat to attain trade bait to either sell or trade to help me get what I want as well. I have collected since I can honestly remember, at least since 5 or 6. I am 29 will turn 30 tis year.
And no I do not know the meaning of a short post, ask the guys who possibly know me from the Beckett MB

Question for the people in the know. What cards should I have graded? I have a lot of older cards that aren't in mint condition. I submitted a 1955 Clemente & got a 6 when I thought it might have gotten a 7. I submitted a 1968 Ryan & it got a 5 when I thought for sure it would get a 6 at the least. I also submitted what I thought was at least a 9 for a 1982 TT Ripken & it got an 8. Should I go through all my cards & try to find a gem mint card? I know it's rare to get a 10 graded. I have most of the rookie cards from the 50's through the 90's...what criteria does everyone use when they are thinking about sending in a card to be graded?
thanks!
When it comes to grading cards, I look at it three ways:
1) Some cards "mainly rookies or HOF's" are worth more than the grading fees even in low grade condition. (send them in)
2) Some cards that have 50/50 centering, 4 sharp corners and great surface gloss are worth sending in even if they are commons, just wait for a low price special that they can be graded under. (wait to send in)
3) Cards that I want for a PSA set registry set that I am collecting, if the card is tough to find or at least NM-Mt 8 or better. (send them in)
That's my take on getting cards graded,
