Need a huge favor from a Toronto-area collector

I know a few of you guys live in or near Toronto; I'm hoping one of you can help me out. A guy contacted me via the Registry about a PSA 8 Beliveau rookie and we've worked out a deal. Since the guy's a virtual stranger I asked him if he'd be willing to conduct the transaction through escrow.com or maybe meet one of my collecting buddies to do the deal in person. Anyway, the former seemed pretty foolproof the one time I used it, but it's kind of costly, takes a while and I'm not even sure if it's available on international transactions. So I'm hoping someone here could help out.

I don't yet know where at in Toronto this guy is. I'll try to find out as soon as possible to see if it would be convenient for anybody to meet him on my behalf. If anyone would be willing to help me out, please PM or e-mail me. I'll hopefully have some more information on where exactly this guy lives by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks,
Steve

I just had a deal "go south" with a Toronto guy, I'll PM the details.
    hopefully it's someone else.

Not him, but I was a little skeptical when the guy first e-mailed me, but since he's willing to do the deal in person, I feel a lot more confident. Marc, I'll drop you a line in just a bit.

  • If you ever need the same service in Vancouver, B.C., I can do that for you.

Thanks, Dan. Oddly enough the guy is moving to Vancouver in two weeks or so. We're hoping to get the deal done before the then, but if not I told him I know a couple people in the Vancouver area. I guess the couple is now a few.

Hey Will, I'd almost certainly be getting rid of my PSA 4 one if I can get this deal to work out. I'll keep you posted.

The odds of this deal happening have fallen from about 8:5 to 12:1.

    Steve,

What are you doing up at 2:30 in the morning ?
Baby ??? Or watching the Blues ?

I fell asleep after the first period.
I saw the Flyers game. That was a good one.
Looking forward to the Canadiens-Bruins tonight too.

Hey, are you old enough to remember Jorgen Petterson ?
An awesome player for the Blues.
The Blues were one of the most exciting teams to watch
in the late 70's to early 80's.

I'm a major night owl, Marc, and didn't have to work today, hence the late-night posts.

And, yeah, I used to love Jorgen Petterson and the Blues of that era. I still have my old scratched-off '80 Topps cards, but I think '81 Topps were the first packs I regularly bought as a kid. I guess I would've been 7 or 8 when they came out. Liut, Federko, Turnbull, Brian Sutter - those are probably still my favorite Blues teams.

  • Why don't you just ask AJ cards?

Well, it's quite complicated. Harvey already has one PSA 8 Beliveau RC and could very well have two. If he were to possess a third - even ever so briefly - he could face serious consequences for violating international antitrust agreements.

You are correct i wouldnt want to see that happen

Wow, that's the last time I try to say something to help you, when you have sarcastic remarks like that.

    Howitallbegan,
You are correct the card was doctored up on the corners.
The seller Brad MacDonald (works at Georgian College) says "too bad", he doesn't feel like taking the card back nor responding to me even though there was an implied return policy.

I'll probably just un-build the corners and send it in for the psa4-5 it was to begin with. at least i can recoup some of my $$.

  • Did Brad MacDonald mention what is the origan of the card. This ebayer has been selling alot of older hockey lately some graded some not. I just wonder if there is more refurbished cards on the market

    Howitall,
I'm gonna go private with this conversation and edit my post above.
Some of the previous facts I mentioned may not belong here at this time.
It seems likely that some of our "new friends" here on the board don't seem very honest and might want to tangle this mess further.

    Le Gros Bill est arrivé!

Just want to thank Marc N. (zsz70) for connecting me with his friend Mark I. (mostly*hockey on eBay) and helping me complete this deal. I can't believe that it wound up going so smoothly. I've had a couple deals with Marc in the past, but I'm pretty sure I had never even communicated with Mark before this situation. It just blows me away that a complete stranger was willing to go well out of his way to ensure that everything went off without a hitch. I don't think Mark's a member of these boards, but he's got some seriously good karma coming his way.

Steve, I could have said the exact same thing about you for going out of your way to help Andy secure his Gretzky rookie a couple months back. I'm glad everything worked out for you.

    Best,
    Ray
  • How refreshing to have a nice post with a happy ending image.

yawie99 - Congrats on the purchase of the Beliveau. Probably the best thing about these boards is the ability to locate and buy cards that we would not have had the chance to purchase before.
