"TOOLED"

ajiaajia Posts: 5,403 ✭✭✭
I just received back some Morgans that I thought may have been cleaned from ANACS.
My biggest disappointment was an 1889CC that has 'AU DETAILS' but was "TOOLED-WHIZZED" & has a NET GRADE of 'VF 30'.
The whizzing was why it was sent to ANACS, it is subdued as the coin has toned a bit, but what is 'TOOLED'?

A band I think image Someone used a tool on the coin in an atempt to make the details appear sharper.
  • As I understand it, "tooled" is like re-engraving some details (hair, etc.) to make the thing look like a better grade.

It means you was robbed!!! Actually it means what it implies, that someone used a tool (file, screwdriver, ice pick, whatever) to move the coins metal. Most likely was filed to remove rim dings or something along those lines.

A sharp instrument was used to move some metal on the coin
