Please PM me if you are interested in acquiring a 2003 $100 Platinum Eagle in PCGS-MS70 grade. To date, PCGS has graded just -7- $100 MINT STATE Platinum coins in the MS70 grade in the entire series - (6) 2003's and (1) 2000. This 2003 was a pop 0 in the 4/04 PCGS pop report with a reported 991 coins having been slabbed in the undergrades. A submission batch totalling 700 coins yielded these -6- MS70's. Some of the coins may not have made it into the MS69 minimum grade, so the pop should be roughly 1,600+ coins in the undergrades when these recent slabbed coins, including the remaining 4 MS70's, make it into the pop report (which shows pop 2 today). Incidently, I had this coin when it was pop 1 a couple weeks ago, but, I refrained from pricing it to several collectors who asked to purchase the coin until the entire large batch of submitted coins was completed.
What is interesting about this coin is the early reports that the mintage on this issue is roughly 7,500 total coins - perhaps one of the lowest, if not the lowest, mintage Platinum coin ever produced at the Mint. It appears that PCGS has already seen roughly 20%-25% of the entire mintage of this coin (no way to tell how many other coins were rejected in previous bulk submissions as well). Needless to say, I believe this coin has a lot going for it with the extremely low mintage and very tiny MS70 grade through rate thus far (assuming 6/1600 - roughly 1/3 of 1% MS70).
Again, please PM me if you are interested in acquiring one of these coins before I offer them out on ebay and elsewhere.
