Nice coin, but there appear to be a lot of scratches from an old cleaning.

And is that a thumb print above his head, cleaned with a hacksawimage
  • Detail-wise, if it's not XF, it's pretty close! I do see the light scratches and thumb print pointed out earlier, but overall a very attractive coin. I guess you have to decide if you can live with the detractions that accompany it. Don't have access to a Krause at the moment, but I think $25-$35 would still make it a good deal. I do know a lot of these survive today VERY worn.
  • Thanks everyone for your comments. There are several of these currently on ebay and this one seems to have more detail and less problems than the others.

I may go after it if I can snipe it cheap. image

    Thanks again,

This coin is VF - no better. Like with young head first obverse Victorian coinage, the relief on these coins is high so you can have a lot of wear and be lulled into thinking it's high grade. Krause has it at $6 F and $12 VF. The Coin Market Values prices are £3 F and £20 VF. I would err on the low side of VF.

Great coin for a personal collection. VF at best and the color, unless it's the lighting, tells me it's been cleaned as well as the scratches giving it away. most Ha'pennies are a nice coco brown.
