Interesting eBay tactic - using copyrighted material

Ok, this guy's a problem. He's using the coinfacts website and photos to pump his auctions. Of course, on the coinfacts site,
it says:

Use of any images or content on this website without prior written permission of CoinFacts or
the original lender is strictly prohibited!

I've reported it to eBay, but no action has been taken. Can somebody else report this jerk?

I say email Coinfacts and tell them. Would be funny if he gets screwed on Ebay because of your email to them and it ends up he/she has permission..image

why the beef...most information on coinfacts came from other sources....most stuff gets moved from one place to the next...live and let live...

  • If CoinFacts holds the copyrights they could request for eBay to remove the auction, and if eBay refuses, they could file a DMCA notice with eBay's hosting company. It might be embarassing if a leak told the press that eBay, the company that constantly toots their own horn about protecting the intellectual property of others through their VeRO program, is themselves permitting copyright infringement. Of course, I'm sure ebay would do the right thing and remove the auction before it came to that.

I have absolutely no respect for people who steal the writing of others.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

The coinfacts information is nice to have on your auction but the real problem here is that his coin is definitely not MS65. If he wants info from coinfacts on his auctions, he could just put a link to the coinfacts page for that coin. I agree that this is plagiarism and the seller should be contacted about this.

Did anybody else notice that the three O mint reverse pix are all the same? Since they are all the same I would bet that they have nothing to do with the coin that is being sold....

You are right. The reverses are all the same. Maybe he is a new seller and doesn't know how to sell on ebay too well. I don't expect his coins to get much of a bid.

Looks like an Ebay newbie trying to figure the best way to create an auction. Like poorguy said - I don't think this approach will be overly successful.

The most disturbing part of that auction is the $8 shipping for a raw coin.
