JohnZ - the coin looks to be at least AU. What you are seeing as/calling wear, is primarily weak strike detail.

Especially true earlier in the series... It's still suspect, but at least AU.

The coin is definitely real. The circular ridge visible on the periphery of the reverse is diagnostic for real 14-D's. I've never seen a fake that duplicated that effect.
