How do you "make" a coin a certain grade?

I read from time to time that someone has "made" a coin a certain grade- How do you do this? Thanks

1. I made a 65= sent the coin to pcgs or other grading service and the coin graded 65.
2. Use a coin as a pocket piece until it gets worn to a certain grade.

"Made" is slang for submitted yourself, as opposed to buying the coin already slabbed.
