A New Grader at PCGS

Does anyone personally know Michael Riethe ? I have been informed he is the son of a long time Pennsylvania Dealer Bob Riethe.Michael does not deal in coins so there should not be a conflict of interest. He has been compared to Ryan Carroll.Any other comments.

Robert Reithe runs Main Line Coin in Ardmore, PA. I've been in there a few times and they are nice people. They make most of the major shows. I don't know him personally; but I did have a nice conversation with the son at one of the Baltimore shows. Very interesting news.

It is a small world. I've happily done business with Main Line Coin before. image

Why do you want a CV/references of a PCGS employee? It's their business and their employee, not yours. David Hall has repeatedly stated that the backlog is what it is because he's not willing to compromise on the quality of his graders. That should be enough for anyone.

I'm sure that he must be a world-class grader.

Russ says that now... but you know you'll be cursing when you send in another "68DCAM" AH and it comes back 67DCAM or 68CAM... image

I really don't see a conflict here. If Michael has been around coins all his life and has seen thousands of raw coins, I would think he has a good, trained eye. I'm sure the concern is that he might show favoritism if he recognized one of "Dad's" submissions, but there are already controls in place that would prevent this. If this news is true, it's a great compliment to Michael's abilities and a nice addition to the grading staff at PCGS.

I believe he will be doing moderns / lower value items....PCGS will be training him over time / all in all, think it is good move for PCGS to add another grader

I have known Michael for many years and believe him to be a very good addition to the grading staff of PCGS.

For those of you concerned with the integrity of either Michael or his father, I say this: Forget about it. Neither Michael or Bob operate and or think like that. And PCGS has safeguards in place to help put your conspiratoristic mind at ease.

    Congrats to PCGS and Michael.

    enough said.
