Anyone ever get paid through Western Union® Auction Payments?

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,430 ✭✭✭✭✭
I had a fellow in England pay for an auction through Western Union. The order was approved on March 25 and I still haven't received payment. Is Western Union always this slow?

    Don,
You usually get two emails. One telling you the guy wants to send you money, and then a second one confirming funds are on the way. If you don't get the second one, DON'T SHIP. Usually the funds show up about a day after the second email. image

They're not. Beware. I think there have been some threads about this before. Bidpay works fine, but it doesn't sound like this is what you are dealing with.

I was under the impression that Western Union payments used to be BidPay image

I did get two emails. This is the second one: ( names deleted for privacy)

    Dear Donald R. Rupp,

A $74.25 money order for payment of eBay item # has been approved. xxxxx xxxxx has chosen to use Western Union® Auction Payments for the speed of an online payment service from a name you can trust.

Should you decide to send the item while your money order is on its way to you, the buyer's shipping information is provided below. Your money order will be sent by the close of the next business day after you receive this email. First Class mail is typically delivered within 7-10 business days.

    Don,
Your funds should be there shortly image. Western Union claims they have never stiffed a seller image. As for slow mail, I sent ten Krugerrands to a dealer in California on the 27th of March. As of this afternoon, still not there image. Why is it that the bills never take more than a day to reach me? image

The note sounds similar to the ones I received for Bidpay. Wait for the MO to arrive, though.

Bidpay's over. If you try to go to their site, you're automatically diverted to WU auction payments.
The way I see it, it's a good thing for two reasons: the fees (for the buyer) are much less than before, and their checks are the standard WU checks,
not bidpay's that were often difficult to cash or cashed at a fee.
WU money orders is the only option I use as a buyer to pay to sellers that do not accept paypal,
since I don't have an account in US funds.
Recently, a seller decided to send back a WU money order that I sent for reasons that he knows. To my surprise,
the returned check had not been charged to my credit card yet.

I had a payment returned to me once and submitted it to BidPay for refund ... and never received it, nor any response to multiple queries over a year's time. I avoid them as much as I reasonably can.
