If you had the cash to win the '52 Topps unopened box ...

CWCW Posts: 1,221 ✭✭✭
...would you:

A) keep the packs intact, unopened?
B) open only a few packs & keep the others sealed?
C) open ALL of the packs?
D) none of the above? what then?

I'd love to have the means to own those packs, but I'd drive myself
crazy wondering what's in 'em! That's why I would pick "C", but with
a small twist. In a stroke of Trump-like marketing genius, I'd set up
a webcast where I'd have a group of buxom, lingerie-clad women opening
up each pack - slllooooowwwwwllly. At $20 a pop, it wouldn't be long
before the whole box was paid for! image

  • open them till I found a mantle..once I did I'd stop..leave the rest unopened
  • I would open them, find a perfect Mantle in eack pack, then I would wake up.

I would have to keep at least ONE unopened. I would probably open half and leave the other half alone.

I would definitely open most of them... keep maybe 2 or 3 unopened.

I would sell one a month for the next 2 years and market the hell out of them.

I would buy a few other lots and leave the "risky" stuff alone
  • i would open them AND eat the gum. the gum wouldn't make me as sick as NOT pulling one PSA 9. in any case it would be a wild ride.

I'd open them. The smart thing would be not to, of course...but I would not be able to resist. I would hopefully find and grade a few nice cards to help pay for the project, however.

If I had the coconuts to buy them, I sure as heck would have them to open 'em up!

I would keep them all sealed . the box will sell for such a premium for being a full box that it would not be worth it. iwould then buy the 3 other 1952 individual packs in the current auction and open thoseimage
  • I think someone mentioned it in another thread, but I'd open at least half of them at the National in front of friends/collectors that I know. Submit the high grade commons and stars/HOFers and sell them right away. I'd keep any players that I like or collect (Jerry Coleman for one).
  • Hey, why wait for Mastro....EBAY is already testing the waters for prices....

    1952 Topps Pack GAI
    Looking for:
    1953 Topps in PSA 8
    1941 Playball in PSA 8.
1952-1955 Red Man cards in 7 and 8
    1950 Bowman in PSA 8
  • I would think twice about opening them because of the likelihood that the cards would be off-center or miscut which would be very disheartening to see damaged Pafko or Mantle.
Buying 1957 Baseball PSA 8 or higher. Especially Checklists, and Contest Cards. Topps1957psa8set@aol.com

I couldn't sleep at night with an unopened box in the other room. They'd be calling my name and say "Open me, open me".

Well, just for the hey of it, I placed a bid at around the $50k mark. Of course, my bid has already been blasted through long ago. Had I won the box, I would save a few packs to open over time, add the best condition pack to my collection and then sell off the rest over time.

I would video tape the opening of each pack, then form a website where, for $20, you can watch it, and I would then try to get 100,000 people to pay it to get my money back.

  • If i had the cash to buy them i'd have to open one or two on my birthday ( i love to bust packs on my birthday) and the rest would go into the safe.
Check out my new web site: Monsters of the Gridiron
  • Open them, without question. My 8 year old needs something to make her bike sound like a motorcycle!

Looking for Nolan Ryan PSA 10's.

  • Is the correct answer: open ONE and submit them to PSA and see what they grade? image If they do well, do another few packs, if they do GREAT, open all but one (got to save one of the high grade packs unopned)... but in 2-3 pack increments.
