Mystery coin--riddle with gold prize!

RYKRYK Posts: 35,796 ✭✭✭✭✭
Along with a coin that was discussed, board member "Dahlonega" suggested that Gold Rush Gallery send along a second coin on approval. The coin was known to be something I was seeking but the coin was to be a surprise for me. Until I opened the box, I had no idea what was coming (though I had a couple educated guesses). Though any "Dahlonega"-approved coin (surprise or not) is always a welcome addition, I did have to wait for seven days to find out what the surprise was. I practically mugged the mailman as he approached my house yesterday afternoon! It was one of two coin packages I received yesterday--the biggest coin haul in my life. More on that later.

Anyway, the first to guess the mystery coin will receive a 1/10 ounce gold American Eagle. Usual rules, no edits! The date, mint, holder, and grade should be submitted (to break any ties).

I will let this go until 10:30 PM Central Time tonight. I will not make another post to this thread until that time unless the correct answer is given. The answer is buried in this post!

I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

    You shout in your sleep.
Perhaps the price is just too steep.
Is your conscience at rest if once put to the test?
You awake with a start to just the beating of your heart.
Just one man beneath the sky,
Just two ears, just two eyes.

The hints in the initial post include the mention of "Dahlonega" (twice), and it was my 1839th post. Sure, you had to guess that it was a half eagle (not a quarter eagle), and the grade was a wild guess, as well. JRGMan was the first to break the code. Stuart almost nailed the coin (scary).

In a magnanimous gesture, Stuart has gifted the $5 gold eagle to YN JrGMan. Kudos to Stuart (already a big winner this month) and congratulations to JrGMan.

Placid, oh yeah, I WISH it were the 54-D $3, but then again, I would have to pay for it. image
