George Anderson vs "Sparky" autograph

I'm not an autograph collector. Back in the mid '80s when I was buying collections, I bought a late 50s early 60s bag of cards from a non-collector. In it was an autographed '59 Sparky rookie card; signed as "George Anderson". I've been told that he stopped signing that way sometime in the 70s - although I have no basis of provenance, I've always guessed that this card was signed in his rookie year. Can anybody give me more info regarding this? Is a George worth more than a Sparky?
