Just received my last registry special submission back. Arrived at Newport Beach 3/1, logged in 3/13, posted on 4/2.
These are not the most difficult cards, but I was still excited with the results.
120 cards: 74 PSA 10's 44 PSA 9's, 1 PSA 8, 1 PSA 5
1989 Upper Deck
I'll finally get past 50% on this money pit.

Bernie,
I hear you there. As I break my third '86 Topps rack case in a week and await the arrival of a fourth--as well as the three 5000 count boxes from 1986 that I broke eighteen years ago (some still in the boxes of wax I broke them from--untouched) I am roughly 1/2 way home in MINT condition or better (BIG set). If I graded it--no way I'm going there--I'd be into a $10 set close to six grand!!! I'll stick to CS 1's for my set for now. The urge to grade 'em is there, but at $6 per card--or even $5--it just doesn't pencil. The same is true for my '81 donruss set. The thing is freaky and I want to share the images of the cards, but the cost to grade 'em doesn't make sense. Even with 10's on sets like these it's a tough proposition.
Do you plan to keep your set long-term? Sounds like areal winner of a set that you have a great eye for!!! Best of luck with it and keep us posted!!! How's that ERIC DAVIS lookin'? You'll get your money out of that one! You'll know where to find me if and when...

DGF,
This set is not going anywhere. I can honestly say that this is the only "untouchable" set I'm working on. Of course everything has its price, but I doubt anyone would/will ever be interested in that price.
I'm in no hurry to finish the set, so I haven't bought any on E-Bay for about a year. I find it more rewarding to buy raw, sift through it, and submit the best of what I have. I have also found that using magnification to pregrade was the biggest mistake I made when I started this set. I find more flaws tilting the card at various angles with a bright light.
Boopotts,
Thanks. I had to type the sub# twice to make sure it wasn't a computer glitch.
Loth,
Yes it is a love of the cards. That's the only way I know how to collect.
BTW, money can be made on certain 80's sets. When I sold my 84 Fleer Update set, I got more than double what I had into it. It now resides in the new #1 registered set.
One of my favorite cards....A card of Gary Pettis looking at a card of Gary Pettis.

LOVE the Pettis! Now give me E.D.!!!!!!! BTW, I agree about the magnification to a degree.

DGF,
I don't have either Davis card in a slab. I knew I didn't have the checklist (sweet card), but I thought I might've had the #410. Am I missing something? It's very possible I am.

This sucks. I'm still waiting on 192 cards received on 2/17 and logged in on 2/28...
Collecting Bowman Chrome Phillies Rookie Cards and Mike Schmidt certified auto cards.
You're not missing anything. I just dig Eric Davis. I collect him and recently decided to go nuts and beat the bushes for the nicest copies I can find of every major issue. I just like him is all.
I'm looking for Gem Mint 86-88 Topps and 85-87 Donruss.
