wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,979 ✭✭✭✭✭
I just heard that you bought that "artifically toned" PCGS-MS67 (REPEAT, PCGS-MS67) 1926 OREGON for $69,000!!! TWICE AS MUCH AS THE PCGS-MS69 SOLD FOR!!! TWO QUESTIONS:

1. HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?

2. WHAT IS YOUR MONSTER TONED PCGS-MS69 BOONE PRICED AT TODAY THEN? image

P.S. Congratulations on filling your Oregon slot!

Craig: I think Dave needs to pull MS71 on this one image

I am kidding with him of course - but paying 2x PCGS-MS69 money for an MS67 (and I know a solid MS69 is worth more than $35k today, but I believe that is what last sale on an MS69 was) - just two words for that - BIG KAHUNAS!!!!!!

Well, you have to figure there was an underbidder. I'm sure he wasn't bidding against the reserve.
Remember Dave's building the ultimate monster color commem set and this coin will be a huge
    addition to his set.

I sure hope he brings it to long beach. I want to see this beauty.

Nick - I believe Coingame 2000 was the underbidder. Enough said image

I just returned from the show and the coin had several underbidders. It sold in 1987 for $5,000 and in the early 1980s was traded for $1,000. The coin is beautiful but the hammer at $60,000 was a surprise. The talk at the show was that it would go for $30,000 to $35,000. Congratulations to the winner.

Actually there is a concensus that the coin will probably upgrade to a MS-68.

Although with color like that, does it really matter. This set makes my beautiful set

    look like borscht.

You can't eat coins, but I bet this coin would forever garner at least a bakers' dozen whenever displayed... image

The trouble with MS-68, is that he has deeper pockets then the rest of us do. Waaaaaaaaaaa.

It's that great "eye" he has that helped to create those deep pockets. Bigger "Waaaaa". image

  • I sure hope that coin looks as nice in person as it did in the picture!! image All kidding aside, when I viewed it on Wednesday, I knew I had to have it for my collection. It is the prettiest Commem let alone Oregon I have ever seen. The fact that it is in a first generation PCGS holder meant that PCGS has not seen it in at least 15 years and accounts for the rediculous grade on the holder of 67. I was as surprised as anyone else at what it took to acquire it. Sure glad I did not leave a bid with someone at the auction house instead of bidding on the phone as Mike DeFalco may have come home with it for just over $50,000 image And no, Mitch, I don't think it will grade out a 71! A 69*, time will tell. Well I best get back to work replenishing those depleted "deep pockets". I would hate to have to sit back and watch Laura outbid everyone on the cool set of Commems coming up in the Heritage Central States sale.

Dave: Good luck on getting that NGC-MS69*. image

By the way, is this the highest price a Half Dollar Silver Commem has ever sold for in the entire 142 Half Dollar Silver Commem series? Dave - do you know? Anyone?

  • Craig,
I will make you a deal. You don't start collecting Commems and I won't start a set of Washington's.
