To buy or not to buy Franklin 1959 PR66 CAM

Have a Franklin 1959 ICG PR66 CAM can purchase for $359. I don't deal in 1/2 dollars much. How is the market for these? PCGS valued at $780

  • Don't buy. NGC graded 1959 Franklins in 67 Cam have gone for less than $300. I'd think a PCGS coin graded 67 Cam could be bought for less than $400.

ICG seems to give out the cameo designation on modern proofs much more readily than PCGS.

On eBay a PCGS 67 coin with a cameo obverse went for $50. Some grading companies might label this coin 68 Cameo so watch out!

Here is an NGC PR 66 Cameo that went for $146 + shipping on eBay: '59 Frankie.

That is way, way too much for an icg and about $100-$150 over priced even for a pcgs one.

It is okay to buy this stuff, just stick with pcgs or ngc...learn the market and be patient. It can be fun, once you get good at it.

Some may yell at me for spamming, but I figure this is appropriate...check out this auction currently on ebay...yes, it is mine. I don't need to put it on to sell, it should sell pretty easily, but I figure I would at least put my money where my mouth is, so to speak, with this gentleman...

Ebay auction for 1959 PCGS Franklin PR66CAM

When looking at the contemporary coins such as this one, remember that always, always CU price is for properly graded PCGS coins only...and even at that coins generally trade in the 40%-60% of CU price. Some way less, but some more (I have actually gotten well over CU for several coins...and have actually been screwed a few times by the price guide)

Hope this helps! Don't entirely give up on this part of the market, it can be real fun.

Send me a PM if you are interested in a 59 cam. I have them in PCGS PF66 CAM, PF67 Cam and may even have an NGC 66 and 67 CAM.
