Not looking good! Is this a portent of things to come?

Are Quarter prices plummeting? Just what gives here?

Just TWO floor bidders on such a key PCGS coin? Does this mean the bottom is falling out?

Is it time to bail and run, that the party's over or are there other underlying reasons at work here due

to all the latest goings on involving PCGS' woes?

Whatever this means, it sure is un-nerving...the fact that THE KEY to the whole series - the alleged

hottest series going, had such a dismal turnout...just 2 floor bidders showing interest literally stealing

this coin? Man am I ever glad I glad I'm not in over my head and have an out!

I don't care for the looks of this! If I had one of these so-called

"Monster sets" with Megamoney tied up in one I do believe I'd be getting just a bit edgy long about

now!

I don't agree with you. It went above sheet (at least by my Jan monthly). I don't view a coin with two pits in the cheeks as a choice example. Tough to fully evaluate based on the photo, but unless it is choice for the grade I wouldn't expect mega strong bids on it.

If the coin was PQ, there would have been more interest......average crap brings average money in any market.

One auction does not signal a turn in the market of any series.

  • IMHO, The price was pretty strong for such a baggy 32D, that wasn't even that pretty.

I sold this 32D in January (FUN) Heritage and it hammered for $2300.

$2100 for such a 63 coin as you pictured, is $300 more than I would have expected for it.

I think your perceptions [wishes] are 180 degrees out of wack! Dust off your crystal ball, your Numismatic "Hindenberg" hasn't happened, nor is it likely or expected by any dealers I've spoken to! Crap coins get crap money, same as any collectable.

Since you're not in "over your head" like some of "US", you better sell everything quickly before Doomsday, or should I say "Boomsday"?

Thats pretty much what I heard on the bourse floor yesterday.
I saw more than a few quarters change hands at good prices. I lost out on buying one because of my hesitation. I went back to the dealer about a 1/2 hour after first asking about the coin, and there was another dealer buying the coin! image

First I heard that Washington's are the hottest series going.

See what happens when I skip a Wash quarter auction - rumors of "the sky is falling" image

All kidding aside, there has been a bit of weakness in the series of late (which I have been reporting for months now), especially due to a handful of some of the very top collectors all quiting within a 180 day period. IMHO, it has created a buying opportunity for selected pieces, which I have personally participated in over this period. I also support my above comment about being a buying opportunity, because many of the coins I have lost at auction were the result of a respected Wash quarter dealer having outbid me. I have generally won around 2/3 of the lots I have pursued, however over this period. image

So, the #1 and #2 registered sets in the country are not losing a "minute's sleep" at this time and have actually been buying and selling just fine in this market. What exactly is "not looking good"? image

Thanks for sharing and all the input. It IS appreciated. Most everyone has made sense here.

I feel not only more "enlightened" but also a lot less "concerned". My concern stems not so

much from where I've been as where I am contemplating going, business-wise. If the "Big boys"

are not worried and they stand to lose the most, then surely I need not be worried. image

I do find it funny however that one particular respondant twisted an honest question into a

"sky is falling"/ Doomsday(Boomsday) swipe. Judging by his icon and # of posts, I could bet the

house that I know who he is. I'd recognize that attitude anywhere!

For the most part I have found that there is much wisdom here and therefore much to be

learned by asking questions. If people like Craig, Don and Mitch aren't concerned-

that's all I need to know! CR your colors are shining through.

    Good day, all.image

    Boom,

Good deduction on the identity of Bellportman.

I came to the same conclusion...but what tipped me off was his sig line. image

    Boom and Rella:

At first I thought you were both brilliant at figuring out the identitity stuff.

Now, I just feel plain stupid after I had to look.

Hey Rella, I was so pre-occupied by those two great big White Quarters, I never noticed

his sig line. Now that he's done a total upgrade and cracked the top 10, all of a sudden

he's an "expert" with all of his seven posts!image That IS funny!

Don, that's a beauty as are all of your coins. I was just admiring them...GORGEOUS.

I have something I want to say to you publicly this Palm Sunday morning-the beginning

of Holy Week. Simply stated this has been one huge misunderstanding as I would cherish

true friendship over ANY coin...EVERY day. I'm afraid you just took it all wrong...simple as that!

No one was out to put one over on you and I sincerely hope you know this to be the truth.

I have nothing but utmost respect and admiration for you and several other members I

have come to know here. You should be proud of your accomplishments.

So far as you CR, this week I am focused on a higher agenda and will refrain from lowering

my standards to trade insults with you. When you cracked the top 10 I emailed you , congratulated

you and said THEN all I had to say. Make no mistake about it though. Just because you have

a so-called better set than I do, this does not make you a better human being or a better man.

There is so much hate, vanity and petty jealousy around here over things that in the end will

    mean nothing, it's sickening!

I am human and afterall a sinner therefore my final comment to you sir, is that my set is bought and

paid for. I owe no one and it suits me just fine. I'm not out to impress anyone. It's for my enjoyment.

Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to honor Holy Week... as my private relationship with the One that

loves each and every one of us is what matters most to me. Peace and forgiveness everyone.image
