Recived coin from ANACS

The coin I bought from American Gold Exchanged, as they claimed it to be brilliant uncirculated. It was an old 1913 british gold soverign, and it had a red spot on the side with George's head. I think it was a copper spot, so I put a few scratchs into it, thus defacing the value.

It came back slabbed today as VF-20 Net graded Damage:Heavy bag marks.

Pretty disappointed

<< <i>Dude, yes anacs would slab your scratched coin. They will assign it a "net" or lower grade because it is damaged. If you want to waste $15 and two way postage for them to tell you what we have for free, then go ahead and send it in. I would save my money, and if I really wanted a nice gold coin in a slab, I'd buy one that way. >>

    SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE....

How to get out of trouble and make a profit on this thing:

Take it to a jeweller and have it mounted in a cheap but flashy 9 carat gold ring, ensuring the reverse is displayed and not the obverse. Place it in the local newspaper ads at twice your (now considerable) outlay. Mark it $x ONO (Or Nearest Offer).

Make sure in the ads that you use the terms "scarce British gold" and "antique gold".

    Some deadbeat will buy it.

    PROBLEM SOLVED

A while back I bought a supposedly Choice BU Liberty Seated dollar through a reputable auction house. PCGS slabbed it as "AU58". I sent it back and got a full refund check by return mail! imageimageimage
But then, I hadn't done anything to injure the coin or lower it's grade.image

I realize that you are disappointed but this is a lesson learned - don't damage or try to harshly clean a coin and when you ask for advice from experts - use it.
All is not lost - the coin is still gold.

It melts for about $96, so at least you aren't out everything and you coul take Lloyd's advice.
