Got these SA proof 1ds in today :)

These are the matches to the 1/2ds I posted a few weeks ago.

The 1937 had been slabbed, Anacs Pr63RB. The cool thing is that "all" of the SA coppers were mint blackened from 1923-42, finding one in any form of "red" is rare.

Is there a nicer ship design than these? Maybe somewhere, but the design exhibits a certain simplicity without sacrificing detail which is very attractive.

And I love the colors and toning you find these SA's in.

Very nice Terry - I love that ship but didn't know about the "mint toning" for the 1923 - 1942's - wwhat aboout this 36?

The 1944 PR64 BN you just sold me is sitting by my elbow. If you look up the adjective "satiny" in an encyclopedia, you'll see a picture of this coin. The fields are amazing. I always wondered how somebody could distinguish a proof SA penny from a business strike, but now that I've had both, it isn't as hard as I thought.
