AT?

What do people do to attain the different colors attributed to artificial toning? Is there an expert in the house. I tried to ask the infamous EBay toner the question, but of course he didn't answer.

The two most common methods are heat and chemicals. Most common chemical is sulphur. Beyond those tidbits, I get lost.

Artificial toning is more art than science. Most coin doctors have their own secrets formula i.e. baked potato, cooking oil, hickory wood chips, used tire tread, newspaper, etc. However, heat is almost always the common denominator.

"So they are held over these things as they burn?"

    1. Insert coin in potato.
    2. Insert potato in oven.
    3. Heat at 350 F for 2 hours.
    4. Dig out coin and enjoy your dinner.

i often AT random coins just to see what effect i can obtain..like right now i have a 72 Kennedy half and a 2001 SAC on top of my wood burning stove which is where they've been "baking" for the last couple hours....i checked them not too long ago and they both have beautiful rainbow colors...also, baking them under a 120 watt light bulb works too...
