my misidentified coin ~ anyone else encounter this?

Hello. I've been reading these message boards for a while, this is my first posting.

I just joined PCGS and was supposed to receive an introductory bonus 2004 Silver Eagle coin, but they sent me a 2001 Silver Eagle in a holder marked 2004! PCGS told me that there are "about 100" of them, and they offered me the chance to return it for replacement. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Is there a premium for mislabeled coins? I listed it on eBay to see what it goes for but I am thinking I should end the listing early and hold on to it in case it has some rare error by PCGS valuable?

Has anybody experienced a misidentification before?

(besides that, by the way, the postings about the various cameras was amazing and informative, I was taking notes, and hope to purchase my camera this month!)

Some people collect error slabs. Is it really valuable no. Is it worth something yes.
  • I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of the aforementioned coin at this time.image

You should send that "problem" to me right away for proper disposal. Only kidding of course and welcome to the board. You will love it here.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • ha, thanks, russ. actually, i did, and pcgs will confirm that this error happened - i just tried to upload the photograph but it is too big, but i have the photo as part of that auction (3905894895).

i only noticed the discrepancy while i was listing it, and i was even going to use someone else's photo! when i was checking my ad's details i noticed, that's when i called pcgs and found out there's about 100.

i think i should cancel the auction. anybody else?
