OK quick>>What does "micro pitted surface mean"? Is that a garuantee Body bag

I saw this on a Segs coin holder. Could that just mean rusty die or has the coin been damaged?
Old coin from the 1860's
Thanks
Tom

To my understanding, it means a rough planchet or corrosion. And probably a body bag from PCGS and NGC.

If the surface is pitted then the coin has corrosion damage. If the die was rusted it would have pits and the coin would have lumps on the surfaces not a pitted surface.

Would you by a rarer coin with the damge? There's no way i could afford a "perfect" one.
    Thanks

To me, I wouldn't have a problem with it so long as the corrosion doesn't look active and doesn't interfere with the look of the coin.

I own a lot of rare coins with either damage or extreme wear. If I didn't would never own them. The difference is usualy between owning the damaged piece at a price I can stretch to afford, or without the damage at the price of a new car for each of them, IF they were to show up. (We are talking about coins with 30 to 40 specimens known to exist in ALL grades.
