Just got grades online for a recent modern submission.
I got a very pleasant suprise to say the least. I sent in a single 2004 Silver Eagle (in a group of 11 mint state and proof Silver Eagles) which looked perfect to me, but I knew it would be a 69 at best in PCGS's eyes.
Wrong!!!! Certification# 21517396 says MS70!! I guess my valuation on the submission form of $35.00 might be a tad on the low side!

I'm an ASE collector and I'm green with envy!
Way to go!!!!!
You just hit the jackpot with this one. It appears to be the very first as the pop report currently shows zero in MS70.
<< <i>Its seems as if PCGS is grading more coins as 70s. >>
Not in circulation strike Silver Eagles. The highest pop for any year is only four, and most years have zero.

Congrstulations,
I have gone through thousands without ever seeing an MS70 SAE.

I collect ASEs also (PCGS MS69s are my goal). It's nice to see there is finally a 2004 PCGS MS70 in existence.
Check out a Vanguard Roth IRA.
Russ has the right idea if you ask me on selling it.

<< <i>or maybe this is a good excuse to go out and get that camera I have been wanting to get!! >>
You can buy several nice ones with what that coin will bring.

try it and let us know what happens.
<< <i>congrats >>
Thanks!
<< <i>crack it out and submit it again >>
You go first, I'm right behind you!!
This would be a perfect excuse to buy a quality digital with good macro capabilities. BTW, Russ's suggestions on appropriate auction forum is spot on IMO. Even with a good digital camera, you may stumble around trying to get quality images if you have limited experience with light settings, etc. I know its taken me 4 months and about 30 hours of experimenting just to get what I consider adequate quality photos and I'm NOWHERE NEAR where some of the other forum members are in terms of photography skills. If that becomes an issue, and you want to sell it while still a Pop 1, just get the coin to a forum member whom you trust that can take quality images for you to use in your listing. Overnight mail both ways is under $30 and will fetch you some great photo's. Cheaper than a new camera.

It is always great to get a 70!

But, don't stop now......
Looking forward to having some of my high end cherry picked one's graded/slabed...
<< <i>I am sure that you will easily clear $2000 on the sale of that coin. I know of one silver eagle collector with a standing offer to pay up to $3000 (based on his website) >>
I think $3000 is the minimum this coin would bring at auction. If the right couple of bidders came along, $5000 would not surprise me. For the entire 19 years, there are only a total of 12 MS70 coins. Of those 19 years, there are 14 years that have zero in the grade. This would be a very rare opportunity for one of the set owners in the huge MS69 logjam to break out of the pack.

It is my understanding that PCGS will generally NOT grade a MINT STATE Silver Eagle in the MS70 grade now for the simple reason that the coins "turn in the holder". The processes utilized at the Mint in the striking of these MS Silver Eagles appears to result in the coins "turning", in some cases before they are even removed from their shipping packaging upon shipment from the Mint. This is not the case, however, with Proofs. Why - I have no idea.
So, technically, I believe that even if a coin has mark-free surfaces, it will not support an MS70 grade if it has spots on it. If, and when, the US Mint alters its production methods and the coins come out "spot-free", I suspect there would be many more MS70 Silver Eagles at PCGS. Perhaps 2004 is that year - time will tell.

I thought April fools day was April 1st not March 30th.
I guess a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
However, I may get more money in my lawsuit for the emotional distress I am currently experiencing.
I hope I did not make a fool out of myself.
I did not believe that the "70" was beyond the realm of possibility as I have had three PRDCAM 70's in the last six months.
Oh well.
Cry and you cry alone!
That's close to perfect!
