  • I have 7 cards I am waiting to hear from today. I will post the results later ( I hope! )

'03 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor Willis McGahee RC/50
'02 Prime Signatures Auto David Garrard/120
'02 Topps Chrome Black Refractor David Garrard/100
'03 DonRuss Elite Gold Status Doug Waechter 1/1

    '50 Callahan Babe Ruth
    '50 Callahan Cy Young
    '50 Callahan Albert Chandler

The last 3 cards are from a set that was given to me. I had them graded at the advice of a vintage collector. They will be put on Ebay immediately after I receive them. Maybe 6's and a 7? Not sure with vintage.

7 MVP awards, the single season HR record, career walks record, single season walks record, 700HR/500SB, and two batting titles near 40 years old. How can one argue that those aren't stats of the greatest to ever play the game??? All this and there is still more to come!!!! Bonds:2005 NL MVP. Or are you going to doubt him again?
  • I just got back a submission to PSA/DNA. Submission # 552511, Zip 21014. Disappointed that the Mays, Aaron and Koufax all came back Questionable.
  • I received an email today saying that my grades were available but not for any submission I made. I went to the link and the order was checked in today but no grades. There may be an email problem. I am eager to get results from a 2/28 submission. Another submission I sent in on 2/27 just got checked in 3/30, but the price was right so I am looking forward to a mid-May result posting. I will post when the first on comes up.

This does not look good for PSA. Absolutely no one would counterfeit those cards.

What was wrong with the PSA 1's?
  • packCollectorpackCollector Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭
sagard, they are autographed cards, i thought the same thing when I 1st saw the submission then realized. heck a kmart card is worth a penny, what's a counterfeit worth?
  • The submission were all autographed cards that I received probably 15 years ago through the mail. I was actually pleased to have that many come back as authentic. Yes, many of the cards are worthless without autos and the PSA 1s were cards that I probably carried around in my back pocket for days on end...
  • I have actually started a HOF Autographs Set Registry..."Jason's HOF Autographs" and I have scans of the cards from this submission.

I have grades back for 2 submissions (my 1st sub. plus my Club), actually I have the cards here already. Somewhat disappointed with my 69's, I knew that some of them would not grade 7's but submitted anyway because they're stars. That would be submission #554014 zip 04858.

The Club submissions were good & bad ...... I don't see how the Boggs can be OC , measured it again ......The Campbell certainly looks better than a 7 as does the Henderson.....oh well I figured this to be a learning experience. Sorry I don't have a new scanner yet to illustrate my points. Club sub #4155400

  • Hey Wufdude, I have a ton of cards that I have received autographed in the mail a few years ago. I sent out hundreds of cards and received players like Joe Sakic, Brett Favre, Steve Yzerman, Sergei Fedorov, Ricky Watters, Pavel Bure, Paul Kariya, Jeff George, Jaromir Jagr, and others. My greatest reults were from Hockey, hands down. I have no doubt on the authenticity of any of these. They look exactly like what their autos are supposed to look like.

If I wanted to authenticate them, what is the cost per card? Do they grade the card's condition as well? Thanks for any input.

  • TheRoach...It's $20 per card which includes autograph authentication and grading. I guess the cost doesn't justify some players but I first sent off some autographed rookies of Ripken, Clemens, Gwynn and McGwire that all came back authentic with decent grades so they were worth it. I've just started this HOF Autograph set for the fun of it so that's where that recent submission came from.

  • I wish I could share, but tomorrow is the 35 day business day guarantee and no cards or grades posted yet. Cards were logged in 02-12-04 and no word yet. Only 43 cards and I don't know what's taking so long.
  • packCollectorpackCollector Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭
dbj, let us know if you get it tomorrow. I have one at 27 or 28 days and still nothing. 80 cards nothing out of the ordinary just 70's topps and opc baseball
  • I got one thats been in since 2/16 and still no results. I hope they get done by the 35 turnaround. It's a little frustrating when others get results with cards that were logged in at the beginning of March. I can't
rant too much. This is a first.
Is it possible a hostess handcut and some 73 OPC baseball could be delaying this?

must be the 73 opc baseball as those are in my order too.image just sent in another order of all 73 opc's , if that's whats the problem then those will be back in june. no complaints either as I had 5 other modern special orders come back in 7 days in january and 1st week of february.
  • I sent in 6 cards via the Club on 3-5-04 and I received them back on 3-21-04. 16 days including mailing both ways.
Results were about what I expected, except a 54 Parkhurst Gordie Howe purchased on Ebay as a NM came back an Ex-5. It was clearly not NM, but for what I paid for it, it was still a good deal. I had a 64 Topps Mays come back NM-Mt-8, which was a nice surprize. All in all, it was a good, fast transaction.

The only one ever graded. I bought it raw on eBay and it measured a bit short, so I was afraid of trimming. I'm pretty happy with the grade - it's on the high side of what I was expecting.

Just picked up my "club" order cards from the PO this morning. I got what I was expecting, except for one card being a miscut, really upsetting because it is a prestine 66 Mantle:

    52 T Mantle - 5
    53 T Mantle - 2
    61 T Mantle - 6
    62 T Mantle - 6
    63 T Mantle - 5

  • Hey man,
I'm in the same boat as you. I submitted my 25 cards at the Hollywood Park Casino Show on the 7th of Feb. The cards were logged in on the 13th of Feb., so they have 2 days to reach the 35 day turn around guarantee. Lemme know if you get your cards posted on time.
I collect Topps Chrome Basketball Rookie Refractors, particularly from 96-97, and limited edition rookies of Taiwanese baseball players.
  • If it's an approximation, then why do they use the word "guarantee" Sounds like they need to stop guaranteeing things if they can't deliver.
  • packCollectorpackCollector Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭
according to a post from Joe they are in no danger of missing turnaround times. I have yet to hear of a missed turnaround time. If a turnaround time is missed then I would contact Joe and discuss it with him. The customer service phone line will give you the textbook answer whereas others more in touch with things will tell you what has actually been happening. no need to panic yet. good luck on the grades!
  • I had let my membership lapse, so I had to submit a membership package. The cards were graded quickly, but one got kicked back as being "miscut by the factory". (A '49 Bowman Gil Hodges), so where does that leave me with this card? Forever ungraded???

    Roach,

PLEASE send me scans of the slabs/grades you get for those Callahans. Im still "debating" to have mine graded and sold, graded and kept or just kept. They appear in GREAT condition. Did you see the ones I posted awhile back? Were yours better, just as good, worse? Also please PM me the auction links so I can "watch" them if you do not mind.

    Thanks.

No problem Aknot. My submission was delayed about a week after an error in the submission. They were resubmitted last Monday for the 5 day service. Technically, I should have had grades yesterday since they already had the cards in their possession and they were logged in already. I hope to get them today.

I did not see your cards. Do you still have a scan? From looking at other PSA graded versions of some of these cards, it apperas that PSA may be tough with them. Ironically enough, my "Happy" Chandler was my best conditioned card. It looks really nice all around except that the top/bottom centering was 65/35. 50/50 side to side. I have seen millions of off centered cards get PSA 9's, so I was initially hoping for a PSA 8 at worst. Now after seeing well centered Callahan cards on Ebay in PSA 7 holders, I am thinking a 6 or 7. I don't get why they could grade a '87 Fleer Barry Bonds with 65/35 centering from side to side a PSA 9, but they are super critical of a 54 year old card when it comes to centering. Unless the 7's I have seen on Ebay have bad corners or creases that I cannot see, it looks like PSA is tough with these.

I am expecting a PSA 6 or so on the Babe Ruth, and maybe a 7 on the CY Young. Compare my "hopes" with what I actually get, and you will be able to tell how tough they are. I am being real conservative. I'd be happy with a PSA 7 on the Chandler, but based on past experiences with PSA, it should be a PSA 8. A 6 would kind of piss me off.

I will definitely hook you up with the Ebay item #, etc.. once I get it going.

Here ya go. I had to reduce the resolution to keep the file size "smaller". So they are a little "sharper".

  • Nice cards Aknot. They look like they may grade 7 or 8's if I had to guess. The DiMaggio looks pretty clean. The Ty Cobb is what PSA would consider off centered. I'll let you know.

I am still waiting for (with patience about gone) the grades to post on about a 70 card order under the February $5.00 per card, 72 to present, set registry special. After seeing what seems to have been board member after board member here post their results from the special that were received after mine, I have about lost my hair. My saving grace, I guess, is that I have calculated the 35 day guarantee to end this Friday. If I do not have grades posted by Friday, I will politely request 70 free gradings.

So in short, my order is in the vault, burried in the corner, under 48 boxes.

like I said , misery loves companyimage My oldest submission is a day behind mefer's , probably under the same stack of boxes. they will probably hand them to the grader of death on the last day to make the long wait even more painful. and mefer, yes it is tough to watch everyone's orders get graded that came in much later . oh well , I'm still happy they had a $5 special.

  • I am starting to get concerned a bit. My submission was sent in by BeachBum over 20 days ago under the 10 day service. There was a snag and then they went in under the 5 day service. Mike said I should have grades by last Tuesday and I still have no word.

It's getting frustrating. I am left in the blue on this one and it concerns me.

  • Hey folks

My two cents- I submitted ONE card (t3 Turkey) with the SuperExpress service on Feb 12, which on T3's is GUARANTEED 20 business days. It was 28 before the grades posted. After triple checking the calendar, I got ahold of PSA Customer Service. The girl told me that in fact I was correct and that a complimentary voucher was sent back with my card.

When I received the card- no voucher. I called again and they said that a voucher had been processed and was in the mail. I received it a few days later, and it was dated AFTER I made the original call to Customer Service which means the girl who I spoke to made up her story. The voucher, when received says I have a free "T3 Grading". Yeah right, because I submit T3's every week...

    Just my experience.

  • Candyfactory,
Similar experience here. I had 3 cards on my last submission ungraded because they didn't grade the particular issue. so it said refund. No refund arrived in the box with my cards so I emailed customer service to see how I get my refund. Heres the email:

    Good Morning Doug,

Voucher #8588 for 3 Marketing Special comps was mailed out to you on April 2. These are for the N6 N9 grades you received on 3 of the cards in this order.

If you have any more questions please call our Customer Service Department 800-325-1121.

Got the voucher today and it was postmarked the day I emailed which was April 5th. ???

  • Maybe the "guarantee" is only used if someone calls them on it.

I sent a package via overnight mail to them. They signed for it 3/30. I finally called on Tuesday, the day my grades were supposed to be ready, and was told that my package hadn't even been inventoried yet. I got an email yesterday stating the cards were received and then customer service told me that it would be 5 days from then. So to my shagrin, according to the CSR I spoke with, your service starts, not on the day they receive your packge, but the day it is entered into the system. So if they are really f'n slow in keying them, you will be waiting... I needed these back for a show this weekend. Then I realized I wont even have them back for my show next weekend. The CSR then told me to use beckett after I told her I don't have these kinds of problems with them. She even suggested it might be a good idea until they get things straightened out, but to come back when things calm down. Um yeah... You have to be kidding me... Beckett, welcome me back, PSA is not getting any of my business anymore.

It's funny too, everything PSA did to win me over from Beckett they have completely undone.

    Better Pricing - Gone
    Faster Turnaround - Gone
Respect in the hobby - Gone

Now they charge more than Beckett
have slower shipping turnaround times - I have to pick my pkg up in the early morning before work or leave work early to get my pkg. With Beckett I can go to fedEx until 7pm any night of the week. and it's 2 day service vs. registered which takes 5 days.
PSA doesn't start the counter until your package is "Entered into the system" beckett starts it the day after it is recevied. Period.
PSA used to have 5 or 10 day grades available in 3-7. Not anymore. Beckett may take the full amount of time, but it's always there.

I don't get it. And the funny thing is too, I've talked to 2 different CSR's. In fact, one night it was a manager who called me. He told me, essentially that PSA was going to cater to the set builders as the set registry was "their bread & butter" and that I should use beckett because, he completely agrees with me, "it's a better deal"

Wonder if Joe knows how his CSR's talk to the people calling in?

    Sorry for my rant.

Does anyone else have a horror story like this? I am so frustrated with PSA. I used to sit and explain to other dealers at shows why I use PSA over Beckett/SGC/GAI and why they should follow suit. Not anymore. This is my last submission.
  • packCollectorpackCollector Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭
envoy , did you mark the service on your package? doesn't sound like it. also, what resitered mail takes 5 days. I have never had a 5 day submission that was marked on the box not get entered on the day received. also , if you want to use fedex, you have the option just mark the invoice and give your account. you are doing a good job to make yourself sound like an anonymous troll. bye bye since you are going to beckett and we will not here from you again
  • packCollectorpackCollector Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭
oh yeah , all the dealys are on a $5 special? does beckett charge less than $5?
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
Actually it's on the $10 special, and yes, my package was marked. I have never had a package not get entered quickly either, that's why I was so frustrated, the CSR told me they "are in the process of keying and doing inventory on packages from 3/29 & 3/30, so your's should be entered in the next day or two"

And yes, I can get FedEx 2 day service from PSA, if I have my own account... wow, that's terrific, and yes, Registered takes about 5 days to get to me after I see my grades posted, it's usually sent to me the end of the next day saying the package was shipped, nothing unusual there.

You should work as a customer service rep for them.
  • packCollectorpackCollector Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭
where do you live , Australia? I live in boston on the other coast and my registered packages have gotten here in 2 days on every occasion except once which took 3 days.

oh well , if you feel that one missed package is going to sway your entire grading decision then you are probably an irrational person if every other case has been a good experience. what are becketts service prices and times ? 5 days for $10 , just curious even though I will never submit to them as I don't collect modern.

I don't think I could work in customer service as i would have little patience for statements that make no sense. by the way , fedex does not insure one of a kind items and collectibles even if you pay for the insurance so why would you not want to ship registered? you are throwing your money away on fedex insurance as the most you can win in a claim is $100
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
I think you're missing the point here. It's not the one missed package, it's not even the shipping or anything like that, it's the TERRIBLE customer service. What kind of company openly tells a customer to go to a competitor? Seriously? And this has happened twice, not just once. This is my first "missed package" but there was 7 modern cards in there worth about 2 grand that I had submitted so I would have them for a specific client of mine at a show this weekend. That is why I spent the $27 to ship overnight. The patronizing attitude of the CSR completely turned me off to PSA. I don't do a lot of vintage and couldn't care less about the set registry. I can appreciate people who do it and I think it's cool and the challenge probably makes it a lot of fun, but that just isn't what I do. Therefore, from the way the CSR manager talked, and the way this CSR spoke to me, since I don't do 1000 submissions per month, or the set registry, I do not matter to PSA in the short term and most definitely in the long term as they are actively pursuing the set registry people. That came straight from the horses mouth. So it has absolutely nothing to do with being an irrational person, the fact of the matter is, if a company does not want my business why should I make it a priority to give it to them?

By the way, I live in Minnesota, and in my experiences, I have never had a registered package from PSA get to me in less than 4 days. And like I stated before, I usually end up having to go to the post office early the next morning to pick it up or take off work a half hour early to get to the post office before they close. Oh and Beckett's 5 day service is $20, which is why I came to PSA in the first place, I used to do Beckett's 10 service, which was about an 18 day total turnaround including mail there and fed ex back. They usually run a special 10 card min, 10 days, 10 bucks. And disregard the fact that I don't have to be a "member" to get my stuff graded. At least I got my free gradings and that made up for most of the money I spent on that. If I ever decide to do set registry, then PSA would be my first choice, but for what I am interested in doing right now, they just don't have the same appeal to me they once did.

    Just my .02

Your mileage may vary and you may have a dissenting opinion.

Wow, nice job on those. That Bonds especially!

I once had a guy send me a card from Alaska in an envelope and I had PSA slab it and it came back a 10. I was surprised. A lot of what you buy on ebay I think has been graded already, at least modern stuff, and it probably was a 7 or an 8, cracked and listed on ebay. Ever seen how many PSA 8 cards there are from 1998 and up? Not many. There are people who will even crack a 9 and list it with the hopes of somene seeing the scan and thinking it's a 10. It sure is nice though when you get a card that really was "straight from a pack to toploader" and it gets a 10.

    Congrats again!
  • My submission is in final review and should be up later today. It takes time to review all of those double digit grades, lol. I will post when they come up.
