Proof sets for year 1972

Following the "Has anyone attempted to collect all world coins from a particular year?" has anyone got an idea of how many different countries produced proof sets for my birth year - 1972 (see I told you I was a newbie!). Is that a reasonable collection to aim for or are there some that will be WAY out of my price range, I guess I could afford one or two gold sets but platinum may be pushing it.

I guess they are all in Krause but I don't have a copy.

Hope you can help

Dr J

That is half way through Krause. If you need, I can do the other half later. Just remember, the catalog prices (from 2002 SCWC) are often just abstract numbers, and that supply/demand will determine what the sets will sell for.

On a good note, had you been born a year later, in 1973, the list above would be close to double, with all kinds of Franklin Mint garbage in the mix.

Most of these sets are available for Krause or less but a few will cost much more.

For most modern coins the real rarities are the issues which circulated but didn't
appear in any sets. You might consider picking up single pieces also as you see
them. Many of even the tough ones will be cheap.

    Good luck.
