<< <i>When you have the time, what is the variation? >>
A variation exists which features a darkened sign with some visible color. In the second variation the outline of a sign is visible against an ever so slightly lighter black background. On both variations the outline of the billboard/sign can been seen, but one contains more color. The variations are Fleer's mediocre attempt to hide a billboard advertising Marlboro cigarettes. The last version, definitely the most plentiful, features a solid black background with no color or sign visible whatsoever. Probably 95% or more of his Fleer rookie cards you will see are this version. The 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken F$&k Face error is definitely the most notorious error in the history of sports cards, but considering the mystery surrounding the Randy Johnson Marlboro billboard error, the Randy error may be the most intriguing for the simple fact that only a handful of people have seen it or owned it. How about getting one step closer to the truth by acquiring this later variation of a truly unique error.
No, if you do a right click and select the pictures properties, You can find out a lot by a picture (sometimes). Its off the Beckett site. They say it is only "worth" about $1.50. Let me see if I can dig it up again.
Does anyone have one to sell? I had dozens of 1989 F Johnsons from error cases, but that was before this card "surfaced" so i probally sold off a few... but now I need one for my variations set for the 1989F set. It's really not all that noticible from what I have seen, the MARLBORO sign is semi-visible, then the other "corrections" are tough to even see beyond that.
Well I have found 4 variations of this card... Clearly visible sign, mostly visible sign, barely visible sign and blackout. Now I wonder if there are more as I have 9 different of the Ripken FF variations... and I have been told by a couple of other collectors that there is 5 or more of the Johnson varaitions.
Does ANYONE know for sure how many and what they are????
I have written Fleer and probally won't get an answer more than "yes, there were a few different variations", but hoping they can say how many there were.
The Ripken Ive heard of about 3 or 4 variations. Do a Google search using Ripkens full name, card manu and the word error, variation etc. You should pull a few sites up. Will probably have to "dig a little.

Kinda cool, I would like to see one where you can clearly see it. Glad you brought that up, I had never seen that before.
