Another Lincoln cent question?

The boards are talking about some Lincolns tonight. I've got a Dansco album going from 1909 to present. It's 80% complete. The early cents 1909-1959 are VG or Au brown. Then 1960-2004 we're talking Red MS64-68ish. The 1909 S VDB is Red MS63. Is it ok to have a complete set, half brown au and other half Red MS64? Thanks for the input.

I think it's okay to have a set any which way that makes you happy. It's nice to have a matched set of coins, but with a series as long as Lincolns, that's a pretty tough battle.

Now, that one might look a little out of place. image

  • Funny you should ask that. You just described the same set I have.(minus the VDB).For a complete set of Lincolns in gem condition you'd have to spend muuuucho denero.Perfectly OK to have brown and red.IMHO.

  • I agree with Russ. YOU are the only person that determines what is acceptable for your set. Once you make the decision, go for it and have fun.
  • My Lincoln collection starts out in VG in the teens and progresses from VF to EF in the twenties and AU through MS form the thirties onward. This shows a nice systematic progression of age through the years.
  • thanks to those that replied. Kuch

Like the others, as long as you are happy with the set thats all that matters.

I also agree with Russ, what makes you happy with your collection is the most important part of the decision.

I truely like the early Lincolns, upto about 1925 or 30, this is (in my opinion) the best part of that series.

Hey Kuch. Once I completed the set I started to upgrade one by one. I then started a second Dansco with the coins I removed from the first set. I guess you could continue this forever, but my second set made a great present to my daughter (little does she know she will someday get the primo set also). Remember- the pleasure is in the hunt.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
