My new pride and joy FDC (or PNC if you prefer).

Got this one in the mail today. I have been collecting Irish First Day Cancels (FDC) as long as I have been collecting Irish coins and this was the first 10 shilling FDC I have come across. They are also known as philatelic numismatic covers (PNCs) which I guess is a more correct term in this case.
These envelopes and coins are seldom in pristeen condition, so all things considered I think this is a good example, despite the ink in the top left corner that somebody tried to erase. The man pictured on the coin obverse is the same as in the left stamp, Padraic Pearse. I thought that was a nice touch.

But I have always been a little worried about the plastic cover. Not too sure if there is any PVC in it. Anyone know?

The coin is a 10 shilling minted only in 1966 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Easter Uprising. 18.14g, 0.833silver, 0.4858 ASW

Philately and Numismatics-always a fascinating combination.

Outstanding!!! Even got the Dublin post mark. I really need to add one of these to my collection. I wonder if the family has any just laying about???image

I am not sure on the PVC thing John. As for me I never take the chance. If's not in a slab or something non-pvc I remove it and put in a safe-flip....but that's me Mr. worry-wartimage

If the plastic is soft, suspect the presence of PVC.

For example, the "Britain's First Decimal Coins" wallets are PVC and chances are many forum members have one. If you do, you will see that the bronze coins are apt to be thoroughly ruined.
