  • Nice one I haven't seen that one before. I have a bunch of the naked lady ones with the breasts on one side and the behind on the other.

  • I'm guessing it's from a tobacco company in Durham NC. Same as the Durham Bulls baseball team that the movie "Bull Durham" was about. Neat! image

  • That is quite the interesting piece. Except I think they have it backwards, You win if you don't smoke and you lose if you do!
So many coins, so little money!

I believe it's from the late '50's. I've seen at least a few of them, so it's not likely to be rare.

Company sponsored tokens and medals and advertising pieces are an extremely underappreciated
segment of exonumia. There are notable exceptions for soft dring and aotomotive items but most
everything else just languishes. My favorites are fast food, electronics/computers, and various heavy
industries. In this last category I like steel, automotive suppliers, air craft, air port, and chemical con-
cerns. Many items from all these categories with only a few thousand in existence and half a century
and older can be picked up for under $1.

I appreciate the info, Cladking. I knew you'd be able to shed some light on this token.

That's exactly right, and the Bulls were named after the tobacco company. I don't know if you've ever been to the old Durham Athletic Park, but they had a famous sign beyond the right-field fence for Bull Durham tobacco that said "hit bull, win steak." That was the best minor-league park in the nation until baseball's monumental greed destroyed it. I was there once when they were filming the movie -- it was cool to watch!
