Question for early Lincoln people

This is a lincoln 1909-S (not VDB) The mintmark looks a little strange. Could this be an added mintmark? or an S over S variety?

The mintmark appears to be the correct style and from the way the light hits it, does not appear to be added. The stuff in the field near the mintmark is probably a struck-through obstruction that happened when the coin was minted. It does not appear to be coin damage. I hope this helps.

  • Looks pretty strange. I have an s/s and it doesn't have any damage around the mint mark(s)
I think it's gonna' need a much more magnified close-up to determine the mint mark edge quality.

    just my humble opinion tho.

This could be an s/s horizontal variety but it looks like some metal is missing. The 1909 s cent has 7 different positions for the mint mark.

Hard to tell if its S/h-S. The one I have is only visible under
magnification. There is a telltale protrusion to the right of
the upper serif. Can't tell from the photo if the bump in that
area is the variety or something else.

The hit to the SW of the MM is not part of the variety.

I'm going to be a nay-sayer on the S/S...it does not appear to be an RPM at all.
