Grades In...

Well, it was a mixed bag...

21519885 1805 10C 5 Berries USA F15
21519886 1883-CC S$1 USA MS64
21519887 1999-P SBA$ USA PR69DC
21519888 1797 1/2 C 1 Above 1 USA Enviromental Damage

I was hoping for VF20 on the dime, but not too surprised. The others were just thrown in to make up the 4.

These were my "freebee" submission received 3/8. Oddly, I haven't gotten results on my Regular submission sent in on the same date yet.

Any early, small silver coins that get slabbed is a note worthy event. Congratulations. Early copper seems to be nearly impossible to get in a holder.

  • Thanks. I know I should be super happy that the dime made it into a slab. The 1/2 cent was a bummer. I'm not too surprised, though. I have had a tough time with PCGS and copper. This 1/2 cent is in a very low grade, but I didn't note any "environmental damage", so I might try submitting it across the street.

let's see a pic of the dime!

here's the one I just got (an AG) which should make yours look pretty nice, by comparison

  • Here it is. I thought it might have a shot at VF20 because of the hair detail, but I guess they don't like the fact that the detail around the face isn't there. I couldn't decide if I thought this was a weak strike or wear. I guess PCGS thinks it is wear...

By the way, I like yours. It has a nice strong date and bust for the grade.
  • Thank you! I'm hoping someday I can afford a nice AU example of one of these, but I am happy with this one. I probably paid too much for it, but I like it.

I'm workin towards a Registry Set of Capped Bust Half-Dimes... talk about small, only a little bit bigger than a 3-Cent Silver... and most coins are too low grade for me... or are the right grade with problems... or are too high and out of my price range... or just not the color I'm looking for...

  • I bought a capped bust 1/2 dime in MS62 recently. I got a great deal on it on Ebay because they did a lousy job with the listing description.

I really like these early guys, but they are kind of expensive and tough to find without an old cleaning or a bend...
