1950-P PCGS MS67 Lincoln - Is this nuts or is it just me?

I was watching this one on ebay:

Link

$2,022.08!!!! The previous two sales on ebay for this grade were $117.50 and $129.50!

What is going on here?!?

I'm interested in any comments on this one. Thanks!

It is a little high, but $117 and $129 is way low...for a 1950 P, even way low for an S and D mint. I know the guy that made a bunch of them and he was selling them for around a grand. Now they have pretty much been gobbled up, so $2k may not be that nuts. These coins are extremely tough to even find worthy of sending in for a 67RD grade, and PCGS pretty much requires them to be a 67.7 or higher to actually put a 67 on the holder.

...pretty much a 66RD (if that) that has been two points overgraded

The 50 has a fairly low pop in 67(15),I also think it's a little high.

The coin looks to me as a very high end 67. Maybe think the people who bid on it that it might upgrade....

  • I was the underbidder for that coin..wanted it for inventory. As has been said, MS-67R in a 1950 has only been granted 15 times in the 17 years since PCGS's inception. This appears to be a high end coin but little chance of a MS-68 grade. It's a low pop coin, only 15, and if someone wants superb coins in a grade virtually never found, than the price is not too high.

  • Did a little perusing of the Heritage Coin Archives and the 1950-D&S do bring high prices but the 1950-P does not. This is interesting!

  • Wow, I'm thinking a 1909 S VDB in Red MS63 or higher just went up in value. Comments or your IMHO?

Last one at Heritage sold for $2415 with the juice. I currently have one in inventory and was prepared to buy this one as well if it went for less than $2000.

  • If Ira was the under bidder, I guess that makes me the under under bidder. I certainly think the 50-P in 67 would have been a bargain at my bid of $1910. Had I really been more serious about it I would have went to $2500. The later dates just aren't big on my radar screen right now. Nonetheless, that coin is worth every bit that was paid for it.
