Help need on Canadian coin

I have a cutomer that just came into the store with a Canadian 25 Cent piece, minted in 2003. There is a "P" under the image of the Queen. Can anyone please tell me what the "P" stands for?

  • It designates that they are plated coins.

  • It's kinda nice to have this resource at your finger tips, isn't it.

As Spiny said, P = Plated.

For cents: A thin coating of nickel then copper is plated onto a steel core.

For 5 cents through 50 cents: A thin coating of nickel, then copper, then nickel again is plated onto a steel core.
