Need Mercury Dime Collectors Opinion Please

I need help from the Mercury collectors opinion.
I bought this dime at a coin show today.

I’m not so sure about Mercury dimes as I am Roosies.
Do the bands on this coin look right? Perhaps altered to look like full bands?
I took the best picture I could and from different angles.

Thanks
Glen

  • Scans aren't too great... looks a little overexposed, so it's very bright, and can't see too well...

A 45p is full split band is a mjor major score... in mint state 65 a very very pricy coin...

i smell a rat on this one.... the bands do-not look correct.....

Have not seen one that looks like that in the twenty plus years of collecting Merc Dimes. Usually the Art work is much better.

Here is a pic of a 1916 FB. I got it for my wife so we would have a reference to know what FB looks like.

Sometimes a razor blade is used to make a FB Mercury dime. I'm sure the same thing is happening on the Roosevelt dimes.

1945-P Mercury dimes do not come with bands like that on their own. If that coin is a 1945-P, those bands didn't look like that at the time the coin was minted!

I agree, those bands do not look right. Too extreme and almost rounded over.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • Agreed that the bands don't look right. Bottom band of the top set looks droopy, as if the metal has been destorted by after mint tooling. As well the top of the center band appears off angle, and the "split" is not proper either. The center bands extend thinly to the left.
    Sorry, but this looks altered.
