ACG - Junk or outright fraud?

- Diane Hagar admits that ACG grades by a different set of standards than that used by 99.9% of the hobby. However, this fact is not disclosed to consumers.

- ACG slabs coins that have been cleaned, doctored, damaged and even fakes!

- Alan Hager grades and sells his own coins!

- ACG will sue you if you tell the truth about them in a public fashon.

- Alan Hager was found by a Conn. Court to be guilty of fraud in a numismatic deal.

  • What I don't understand is what ACG's grading standards are. Supposedly, PCGS, NGC, ANACS, SEGS, ICG, and even PCI and NTC supposedly all grade to ANA's grading standard. The strictness/laxity of the various companies differ, and their respective reputations differ. However, if ACG is now saying that they don't follow ANA standards, then what standards do they follow?

I have a copy of the book pictured below. (without the wooden stake, and I actually read it) The book presents a set of grading standards, but that doesn't appear to be the standard being followed by ACG in the recent past.

  • well it certainly seems that their reputation is not improving! I note that ACG is trying to make an inroad in the Canadian marketplace...image

It is interesting when you look at the Hager suit that they admit that they grade fakes and can't tell the difference!image

I believe they are not allowed to set up a table at any ANA show.

I'm sure the ANA did not lose any sleep when the Hagers did not renew their ANA membership.

Quick search on Ebay regarding another issue, Code of Ethics Complaint:

Just some parts I found interesting...

<< <i>The Board also recognizes, based upon the information provided at the hearing as well as the opinions expressed by many of the witnesses called, that a significantly larger percentage of grading errors appear to be made by ASA Accugrade than by other grading services. >>

<< <i>..it is the responsibility of ASA Accugrade to clearly define and delineate its grading standards for the end consumer of the coins it encapsulates. The language quoted from the back of ASA Accugrade photograde encapsulated coins does not properly advise or represent to the end consumer of these coins that the coins do not meet industry accepted grading standards but are graded under a different standard. >>

Even if I did not know who Accugrade was, just reading this would keep me away.

I just like to think that people like that will get what they deserve after life on this planet is up! I don't do business with them, and don't worry about them.

I do applaud users on this board who help other members learn about companies like this and others.

I just wonder what kind of attorney would have authored this gem:

<<they knew that said coin was counterfeit and that its counterfeit nature was difficult if not impossible to detect>>
