Sources for vintage oddball football

Other than eBay, Touchdown Treasures, and Joe Colabella, are there any good places to look for raw vintage oddball football? I'm talking about pre-1980 team-issued sets, Champion Corn Flakes, Anonymous candy, stuff like that. I don't know if there has ever been a 1946 Browns Sears card on eBay image.

  • Mike Mosier of Columbia City Collectibles. They have a weekly ad in SCD and I think they now have a web site.

Awesome! Thanks John, it looks like Mike Mosier has an excellent selection. Does he do shows?

I think Mike's bread and butter is shows. He is definitly an oddball specialist.
He's at most of the big ones; Ft. W, Sun-times, National, etc..
It's worth stopping to look through all his odd-ball binders(I even dug out some Glendale Meats once), and ask if you don't see what your hunting 'cause he
usually packs in more stuff than anybody on the floor... box after box under and behind his tables.

Cool. I'm more excited about this National than any since my first. I'm cutting my teeth on so many different things that I'm not comfortable spending a lot without seeing stuff in person. I've already started my wantlist image.

  • I know Mike sets up at the National every year. He's a great guy to work with once you get a want list put together. He's great at keeping in touch and letting you know when he gets something on your list.

Another good source is Dean Zindler of Zindlers. He also advertises every week in SCD. I have also seen Dean at all of the Nationals that I've been to. He is just as good as Mike about following up on your want list.

You might want to be aware that at least on 2 occasions in the last few months Zindlers was offering cards for sale that he didn't own- merely marking up other dealers inventories, and when someone expressed interest he'd say he'd just got back from a show, and would have to check on whether he still had the cards. Personally I like to know that the person offering cards for sale actually has those cards for sale.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

The fact that you would dare to say something like that about a card huckster (aka dealer) on this board spaeaks volumes about your character image

edited to add: besides, what's a few little tiny white lies? it's not like he's trimming his cards, playing with scans or misrepresenting the actual pop. report numbers.
  • I've dealt with Dean for 15+ years with no problems. I'd be disappointed if he's doing business that way.

    Anthony.
remember that a few members around here practice this same thing (or at least they try).

Have you ever recieved a package from someone different than you sent the $$ to ?????

....after posting a want list perhaps ?

    edited to say:
I'm sure the crowd that is OK with altered scans and post-dated pop reports has no problem with this practice whatsoever...after all, where's the real crime? who's really gonna get hurt ??

  • Afternoon Joe, been meaning to respond to this thread a while now.
Once in a while a refer people to a place called:

    www.touchdown-treasures.com

Lots of oddball stuff, cards, programs, different things. Hope you find what your looking for!

  • If you are going to the national this year, check for Wild Irish Cards (Mike O'Brien).
I lost track of him several years ago but he used to do the national every year. Top notch guy with top notch FB stuff and his favorite was the esoteric.
Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.

Thanks again guys. Between the sites mentioned I've located a good percentage of what I'm looking for (haven't bought any yet, just researching), but some stuff is still eluding me. The team issued sets from the 40's - 60's seem incredibly difficult to locate. And I've still yet to see a single 1946 Browns Sears card (I'm interested in a set if anyone has any leads).
