So you think that book is helpful? I've thought about buying one too. I have some Morgans with die cracks on 'em and I'd like to explore the possibility of their being a VAM variety.

    That`s a good surprise.image I typically don`t collect VAM`s but, have a similar story.

At a local coin store a couple of years ago I bought my first Peace Dollar which was raw ( and still is ). Someone else was there and told the dealer that he wanted to take a look at any 1921`s he may have. The dealer took one out and before he even put it in the guys hand said, " I don`t want the piece of junk. " The dealer said, " this is the only one I got. " The guy still wasn`t interested and put it back in the case. When he did I had a look at it there in the case and liked the look of it. When the other guy left, I told the dealer I wanted to have a look at it so took it out again and handed it to me. I looked at it and still liked the look of it and bought it for $30. Last year I found out it was a Top 50 VAM!image

Here`s the Peace Dollar I`m talking about. image

  • one of my daily dumb questions: what makes that a variety? Where/what is the identifier?
