Home PSA Set Registry Forum

lets get back to basics

the boards have a unique way to fill you with joy to be part of such a wonderful hobby surrounded by great guys

or an equally unique way to feel sick with the hobby.

when i first join, the registry was still a baby, I remember the 1972 fav fives and their energy was truly contagious

gemmintman and his top secret 64 giants super set.

those were good times to read the boards.

i remember reading for months before i got the guts to post.

then the whole BWM episodes started and things got really ugly...i mean nasty!

the whole PSA & sgc thing took a good beating and many people drew lines.

it lasted a while and a few people got banned or got fed up and left.

a host of new guys have joined since and have added tons to the boards...like king kellogs and virtuallizard for example

lately however there is just such a negative vibe... not just with PSA but with graded cards in general, the high prices, the imperfect nature of 3rd party grading, etc

from the latest PSA blunders in costumer service, two reliable horror stories from posters about GAI , the restored SGC graded t-206, to BGS grading of trimmed cards galore

lets get back to the cards for a while...wether its modern or graded by whoever.

here is a card that i just love...

Why are they called "partners"? I thought this was a family-oriented board with children reading it. image

    calleocho,

I am honored that you took the time to mention that you have found my posts valuable. I intend to continue to provide valuable input to these forums and I agree that more discussion of "the basics" needs to occur. I have actually held back from posting much lately, and I've also found myself skipping over some threads recently. In the 2 years or so that I've been reading these message boards, this is the first time that this has happened.

There are many new collectors who come here for the first time and must be so turned off by what they read. I'm grateful that this was not the norm when I first read posts here 2 years ago, or I might have decided to move on and would not have been able to meet all of the great people who make up the core of this message board. I still haven't even scratched the surface. There are regulars here that I highly respect, yourself included, that I have never met or had any transactions with (a lot of the football guys come to mind).

Let's start talking about nice cards again. If I'm ever going to catch up to Vargha's post count, I need some decent material to discuss! image

Oh yeah, calleocho, if you are in Miami, let's try to do a Marlin's game some time this season - it's about a 45 minute drive for me to the stadium.

Sorry, I forgot to post the card that "I just love".

Thanks again for making the attempt to get this thing back on track!

    Hey, whatever it takes!

Seriously, I do hope you resolve your issue with PSA, but it's time to move on.

How am I not "moving on"?

I didn't mean you specifically. I just think there are more meaningful topics to be discussed in an open forum.

See how I boosted my post count with that two word response? You stand no chance, pal.

Man, Vargha posts so much, I can't even keep up. I guess I'll just have to deal with "collector" status for a while.

Those coin guys put me to shame though.
  • VirtualizardVirtualizard Posts: 1,936 ✭✭
Hey, I'm a coin guy now! That counts, right?

    JEB.
  • VarghaVargha Posts: 2,392 ✭✭
Nope. Unless you can show 1,000+ legitimate posts you have made on the issue of artificial "toning", then you are simply masquerading as the real deal.
  • VirtualizardVirtualizard Posts: 1,936 ✭✭
    What's toning? image

Hey, this is getting easier every minute!

  • JEB - Whats the deal with Stargell's glove in that picture? Is it broken or is there just an unusually large gap between the fingers?

Just a silly question but it does up my count by 1 as well.
  • VirtualizardVirtualizard Posts: 1,936 ✭✭
    Cubfan,

Not sure. Old glove, I guess.
