I didn't even know there was a Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. They should be the 51st state

Are they going to pay for the extra page I need for my Intercept Shield book?

  • IMHO, adding those would ruin the symmetry of the program.

They should have had one for DC at the start of the program.

  • I also think they should not be added.....

I have to agree with ksteelheader, they should NOT be a part of this progrm. If they want to have a program for the territories and possesions that's fine but make it a seperate program not a tag-a-long "ME TOO" add on.

Bad idea, why not do this seperately if they feel it is necessary.

I agree with tootawl that DC should have been part of the program form the beginning.

Who cares. At least it is a change in our coinage. We have had the biggest dry spell in US history for coinage. Anything they come up with has to be better than the Wisconsin Cheesehead quarter coming out as the last one for 2004!

  • I was not aware that we had any more "States". I thought that this was a program about the States that make up our union, not wanna bees.

I think it will be great to have six more outlines! What is Guam shaped like?

We should be talking about scrapping the state quarter program and having the mint issue an apology to the American people.

  • Let me get this right. 50 state quarter program. When in hell did we add any more states????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

We should not add any territories, etc to the "state" circulating commerative coinage program. I would have been okay with a special commerative quarter honoring DC, since its in the United States and a big part of our heritage, but definitley not the other.

Lot's of those places like pureto rico and VI dont want to be states, becuase they dont want to be included into the taxation and other responsibilities, then why should we honor them on a coin.

A Banana...image and close to a republic of it.

Have mixed emotions myself and based on response here, the Senate will probably kill it. Guam alone deserves something, I dont know much about the other places and their politics. I visit the Northern Marianas Islands from time to time and rather difficult to even find an American flag if I remember correctly. Guam however is totally different with many proud US citizens that contribute and stand behind our country just like any state.

  • DC definately, Guam also, important military history. Puerto Rico for the millions living in US. Others don't care.
