1967 Reggie Jackson?

I recently sold a piece of memorabilia, and was looking to add some others. I came across this ....

check

pretty cool

  • You think they would have put the scan of the back, with Reggie's signature, in the auction itself without having to click on an additional link.
    But, yes, it is cool.

That happens to be my lot, I didn't think clicking a link for the back was that much of a problem. If I put the front & back side by side (The check is large) it would take a while for the scans to upload...jay
  • thats Jay Wolt, so its legit

GR, Thanks for the nod of approval. But the cool thing about signed cancelled checks, they have more provenance then say a signed file card. I have tons of payroll & personal checks in my collection, and the dated bank stamping helps their credibility...jay

1420 - I saw your auction on the Rose bat yesterday, and now its sold. Congrats.
  • Jay, no problem. do you have any hockey checks?

    GR - Not too many...
I know I have a vancouver payroll check of john grisdale from '75, i thought it was neat and i picked it up.
About a year or 2 ago, I was the under bidder of a slew of Bobby Hull cancelled checks, about 150-200 of them...jay

Thanks Jay. It was hard to think about selling the bat, but with a few things on the horizon I had to.

  • I wasn't implying it wasn't legit, but you can post two photos, and edit them for size.
I almost didn't even see the link where the back is shown. I looked for the photos first,
and thought the back wasn't even shown.
Then I found where the link is. I just meant it as a matter of conveinience for the bidder.
    Good luck with the auction!

    Jay -

I don't question the authenticity of it now that I know you are selling it, but before I did. The main reason was that the 1971 Topps card has his signature as 'Reginald M. Jackson' (if memory serves me right). Do you know anything about his signing habits? Any info would be appreciated for educational purposes. It is a really neat piece, but since it didn't come in a hot dog package, I will have to passimage

DSTUDEBA - Reggie's sig on the '71 card as Reginald M (Martinez) Jackson was put in place since his Topps contract (where they lifted the sig from) had it listed that way, being so official and all. The cancelled check had his name listed as Reggie Jackson on the front, and he signed it that exact way to endorse it. He was widely known as Reggie Jackson in his college days while he was the #2 overall pick in '66. Like Neal's Pete Rose bat, I put this item for sale on eBay, kinda hoping I'd sell it, then again kinda hoping it would stay with me. Its not really a replaceable item. The more I see it via the auction, the more inclined I am to just keep it in my cancelled checks/payroll checks collection...jay

    Great piece Jay.

    Any Rod Carew checks?

    Loves me some shiny!
  • qualitycardsqualitycards Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭
C4M - Carew is one tough HOF'er to have a check of. I have maybe 75 Hall Of famer personal checks and/or payroll checks. And I never see a Carew in either form. Doesn't mean that some aren't floating around, I just can't recall any...jay

Thanks a lot for the education. I do remember back in the days when my mother told me that I had to sign the check EXACTLY as it was written. Now it is all the same scrawl!

    Have a great weekend.
