College basketball vs. NBA basetball

Nothing to do with cards, but I enjoy college basketball and think March Madness is the best playoff system around. NBA basketball holds absolutely no interest at all for me. I don't really know why. Anyone else have different perceptions between the two?

  • I like college basketball when Ga Tech wins image

Pro basketball is boring and the atlanta hawks flat out suck

  • Brian - As you know I am a GT fan also, but even if they weren't in the sweet sixteen I would still be watching.

Atlanta Hawks - Does anyone care?

  • I'd be watching it too, but it helps when the team you go for is good.

I think it may have something to do with what you do for a living. If you don't have your Saturday's free to sit in front of the tube, then you may be more likely to be an NBA fan. That's me, anyway.

On the college scene - way to hang Wake Forest - Exciting ending - by the way, I know I won't get much agreement but I picked St. Joe and U. Conn in the finals. March Madness ranks high up there for me - more exciting in some ways to a 7 games series that seems to go forever. Just my 2 cents.

being a uconn alum, it was long ago instilled upon myself that march madness is actually a holiday.

  • Why do college sports succeed? Why does anyone watch? The CBA, World League, and XFL have better quality players than 98% of the college teams, but nobody watches them? Just my take, we're brainwashed to think that college sports are exciting, so most take it hook, line, and sinker.

  • College sports ARE exciting. As a player, you've got 3, 4, or 5 years to make your mark, unless you bolt early. As a fan, you get to follow your state's school and/or alma mater. No one can say these kids play for the money (yet), so their emotion is real.

Who can't be impressed with the three kids who decided to leave Baylor and go to Texas, Oklahoma State and Mississippi State, respectively, and made all three teams better.

My only problem with collegiate athletics is the graduation rate. It's a free ride, kids. If you can't cut it, there are plenty waiting in the wings who can. If a program (sport by sport) doesn't graduate 70% of its scholarship athletes in six years, they go on probation, no post season.

Pro sports seasons are too long, players are paid more than I think they're worth (compared to teachers, engineers, accountants, etc) and there is no loyalty except to the dollar.

Give me the college game anyday, whether it be basketball, football, baseball or skeet shooting.
