1988 GOLD PLATED DIME

Can anyone tell me anything about why and or when this was done.Recently my aunt passed away I was going thriough her cupboards and found this 1988 rosevelt dime unc and gold plated,never saw one before.

  • A lot of people plate coins with gold,silver,platinum,etc. to sell them at marked up prices to inexperienced collectors.

    I've never seen a gold plated clad dime.

    I have heard of some on this site plated with various metals and of various dates. These are not commonly seen.
