7-Day Auctions: still the way to go??

I used to swear by the 7-day ebay auction when selling--- 3 days was too short a time, 10 days too long.
More and more though, it seems like your item only exists on two days: the first and the last. Are people
more impatient with 7 day auctions now-a-days?

  • Hardly anyone bids on high value items until the very last day, so 1 day or 3 day auctions are just fine for me.

  • 10 days is a long time but it can give you 2 weekends. 7 days are good also. 3 days I think are too short. Sometimes I only get computer time on the weekends.
  • I find that 5-day auctions work very well for mundane material like MS-65 Franklins, generic Morgans and low value items. Not too short, not too long and two days of dead time in the middle are eliminated. Results have never suffered.

7 days for me...only way to get the item out there long enough to draw the right crowd.

7 days and a reasonable Buy It Now. My auctions sell between 85 and 90% first time out.

  • What, nobody's going to flame me for calling Franklins mundane? I use 5-day auctions for mundane items like Kennedys too. image
  • I almost always use a 7 day auction, with very few exceptions. Why? Simply because 7 is an even number. image
