Oldies found in change, did you find anything interesting lately?

I don't spend change, I put it in a jar. After a few months I wrap it up and deposit into a special savings account. This time I found a few wheaties, but also two things I almost never see. A Buffalo Nickel and an Indian Head Cent. The buff is dateless and the 1887 IHC is very, very corroded. Anyway it was neat to find them.

Have you found anything neat recently?

I fill a 5 gallon water jug, cash it out, then buy coins for my collection.

    Edit- No good finds lately.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Last weekend I received a 1945-P war nickel in change at Wal-Mart. I'm guessing that it has been more than 10 years since I last got one of those in change.

I was at a casino with a friend. She was playing a 50-cent slot machine when she hit for $200. As 400 half dollars poured into her bucket, I heard one small, dull clunk amid the clinks. I refused to let her cash them in until I looked through the bucket. Sure enough, there was one silver half in the mix. It wasn't that unusual a find, but it amazed my friends that I could pick it out from the sound in the middle of a row of noisy slot machines.

Received a 1964-D Quarter in change at the doctor's office about a month ago. I showed it to the young lady who gave it to me and asked if she noticed any more in her drawer...of course they all looked the same to her.....no more.
I never met a coin that wouldn't fit in my collection.....

Found a 38 Buffalo in change from McDonalds a few weeks back. More recently, I put about $9 in 1969 proof quarters and $3 in 1969 proof dimes in circulation over a 2 week period in the vending machines.

  • I recently got a nice red original 1964-D cent in my change. Not cleaned or anything. Probably not worth much more than the cent, but a neat find nonetheless.

A 1913 wheatie in change at the grocery store. It was pretty corroded but my YN son thought it was pretty neat.

I've posted this before, but I got a Type 1 SLQ (date worn off) in change at Krogers. The cashier looked at it for quite a while before giving it to me. I was afraid she was going to keep it.
