GSA Morgans

Wow, Harlan J Berk just got in a bunch of GSA Morgans link

There are no pictures up yet, but given the grades and the general consensus that Harlan J Berk are straight shooters.

Do these look like reasonable prices.

Also, is it better to keep these in the original holders or get them professional graded.

Thanks

Looks like nice prices to me.....

BTW you can get them graded by NGC..And they stay then in the original holder.....

As Dennis88 pointed out, NGC does grade them in the original goverment holder. Here`s a link to their announcement.

You can pick up these coins cheaper on Ebay.
The 62/63 grade are just average grades for these coins.

In the last 2 weeks there have been over 60 'Gsa" dollars(commons) that have sold in the 150 to 160 dollar range, and 3 that sold between 130 to 140.

Birdman, GSA's dated 82, 83, and 84 in choice condition are available by the truckload. I don't think you'll see much premium for the plastic with these dates unless graded gem+ or have nice toning.

If you are interested in having these graded, I see no problem submitting to PCGS (who will crack-out and designate GSA on the holder) for the coins you feel will grade in that 63/62 range. However, if you have a nice gem---by all means keep in in the gov. plastic (NGC). I think it boils down to personal prefernce with these dates in lower grades, whether or not you like the gov't holder.

Bryan - Did the grades come in the range that you expected them in? Tougher/Looser?
  • gsaguygsaguy Posts: 2,425
They were pretty much where I expected Franko with the exception of thinking that perhaps one of the 91-CC's would hit a 64. I think the 90-CC is now only the second one graded by NGC (and the first one was in a tampered-with holder in my opinion) but I've not confirmed that yet.

Those two dates (90 & 91) are really tough to find in anything much better than MS61.

And to think, I didn't send 'em the nice ones.image

Buy some of these on eBay and see what you get. Mostly the real baggy 60 and 61s.

Here you have the coins in the GSA holders with Harlan Berk's grades, which mean a lot more than an eBay seller's grade. Don't believe me? Look at all the common AU55 and AU58 Morgans these guys are selling in PCGS holders.

send me the nice ones! Congrats on the '90--I bet that 78pl is a real beauty though, a nicely struck date.

I here what you saying about the lower grades, but If I was going to buy a 63 which 90% is what HB is selling, I'd rather take a chance on Ebay from a person who normally doesn't sell coins and save $80 bucks. Some of these non-coin sellers have great pics and if they have a return policy better yet. I have picked up many nice coins in the 63/64 range for a heck of alot less than HB is selling them for. Or, birdman can find many Ngc ms63 Gsa's on Ebay right now for less. A couple of them sold on March 17th for $155(82cc) and $148(84cc). That's a big savings from HB and the seller already spend 10 bucks or so to have them graded, so he know what he's getting just incase Ngc doesn't agree with HB if the bird sends them in for grading.
