No, it's a 2 Zloty commem, but the Polish Mint has the habit of making so many of them that I have decided to call them tokens and not coins

Oh, now I get Philip's humor! Indeed, they keep the collectors busy with all their coins. This two zloty series already has dozens of coins in it, only 8 years into the program.

This commemorates the 10th anniversery of the "Children's Holiday Help Orchestra" conducted by a certain Mr. Jerzy Owsiak. It's basically a fund-raiser for children's hospitals, and it's quite famous. During the Christmas season, millions of kids go around collecting money, and the citizens give the program a lot of support and airtime on tv and in the media. I believe at last count, they're able to collect $10 million per season. I think that's quite successful.

Hey, Jester, I have a question about these commems.. do all of them in the series circulate or are many of these just intended for collectors?

Nice piece Jester! It is amazing (well, maybe not) that a new coin can be more challenging than a rarity.

BTW, all of them have such a nice central hole?

I've always enjoyed studying the different styles of central hole punches in coins,
from the crude almost jagged holes of some Laotian issues, to some very nicely tailored
French and African issues; this one is nice.

Spoon, they are indeed found in circulation from time to time. Actually, most that I have are from circulation (that a friend gives me). This one, however, was bought at the National Bank by another friend.

Only once have I found a commem in circulation (excluding a 25 Cent bicentennial piece that a friend brought me from the USA). It is a 20 Krone from the Czech Republic and commemorates the new millenium.

Well, it has been my only outing in 15 years, so that's normal.

I'm only 24 so I look forward to travelling more frequently in the future
