PSA Registry - Owner's Comments Block

Just curious what most people put in the owner's comments block on the Registry Sets? What I have been doing is putting the PSA Serial Number of each card I own for the set in this block. This works real well for me, since I can print the list and rapidly have an inventory I can bounce against my cards.

Any other ideas out there ??

Comments

  • "from personal submission"
    "1 of 1"
    and tidbits about the player

    are usually found.

personally i like to find out how you got the card. if you found it in a dollar bin and had to whack a guy over the head with a '90 Fleer Factory set to get it, then do tell!

some also list that its the "higest graded example" or that "only 6 have been graded" and so on. The only time I have used it is on a graded modern set where 15 of the 45 cards are #'d to 100 - and I put which # I have...jay

    mrc32,

Your set is what the PSA Set Registry© is all about for me! Thanks for taking the effort to make it more than just a game of numbers. In my opinion, scans are a must and comments make a set that much more attractive to look at. Like I've said before, I'll pass on all of the 100% complete sets with a GPA of 8.50+ and scroll down the list to look for the 53% complete set with a GPA of 5.73 and scans of every card. That is the true collector in my book! image

    Thanks again for the effort.

    JEB.
  • WOW mrc32, You put a lot of work into this! Gives me definitely something to strive for. As said above, this is what true collecting is about. I get very bored seeing high grade sets with no photos and just numbers. You have definitely taken a step above with your Registry Set! imageimageimage

  • I love adding scans to any set I am working on whether for business or pleasure . The hardest part is making the time to do the scans and post them on the web. I have latley fallen behind adding scans for my sets but I have had a lot of other priorities in my life than work. If I did a cost/benefit analysis on scanning in cards from a set it would definitely be a money losing proposition. Why do it then? I have a couple of reasons:
You the collector are spending hard earned $'s for ink and cardboard. You should make sure that it is the right ink and cardboard for you and get to see it. Nothing annoys me more as a buyer than people who have websites and do not bother to scan those $25 to $200 cards, and then make it sound like I have asked for their first born when I say I want to sse a scan of these "low cost" cards. If you are paying money you should get to see the goods.

Here is a great example a simple Kellogg's set all the cards scanned that just sold off EBAY today . I am sure having the scans made the buyers decision easier.

      Kellogg All-Time-Greats
I take pride in my cards and try not to just buy the holder. I have some PSA 2 - 6 cards that have wonderful images and look great in a PSA holder.
Here are a couple of great examples of Pre World War II issues (yes I know I only have a few BAtter-Ups Scanned I am working on it)

      34-36 Batter-Up

      1936 Goudey
I do a lot of odd ball or non mainstream stuff. Some of these cards people rarely get to see. So I like toshow them off. They truly are some killer cards . Here are a few sets you may not have seen on the registry:

1914 Polo Grounds GAme -My personal favorite!

1929 Kashin - The ultimate baseball tall boy set

1936 S&S Game Cards - HI my name is Jeff and I am a game card addict

1969 Topps Decals - Strange and unusal

1970 Milton Bradley - Could you guess that I like game cards?

And just for good measure the one that got me started . MAny thanks to Zardoz 3D Kellogg Krack Dealer for infecting me with the set building virus:

A really nice VINTAGE card set .

        Hope you enjoyed!

I do feel it's great to post comments, information, etc. on the cards. Pictures too if possible. The more personal a set, the better.

I admit I am much too lazy to do so on my sets, but would like to and might in the distant future.

I'd be honored image I think I'm going to go back through and edit my "submission" cards to show where I got the actual card.

When I discovered the registry one of the first sets I looked at was Shane Leonard's 1971 Greatest Moments set. I was always curious about these cards, but no dealers I ever talked to had any info on them, most never having heard of it. So Shane's comments taught me more than I had learned in the previous 10 years or so. Il think it's the model for what a "set leader" should have in his set. So big ups for Shane.

There are numerous other guys who have info on the cards, the players, the history in their sets. Someone posted a football set recently that was very informative about most of the players, but I can't recall which one.

        WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

        Nothing on ebay

        Virtualizard and others-
Thanks for the kind words. My set isn't huge. I don't go out and buy cards just so I can punch them in the registry. I enjoy the chase of the card then taking my time to learn about each player by "Goggling" them and looking them up in my small baseball library for cool anecdotes.

When I can I will finish adding player descriptions for the rest and I REALLY want to get a scanner so I can add nice scans of front and back. I keep telling myself I'll get one soon.

Once again, thanks for the kind words

      6. This is a great thread! Thanks to everyone who shared their sets and ideas for filling the owner's comments. The goal for my 61 Topps registry set is to have a picture and bio type information for every card. I've done this for several of the cards and have a L O N G way to go... but at least its a start.

What's the fun in just throwing money at a set and never trying to learn more about the cards or players that make up the set? I probably have researched fewer than 10% of my cards but have learned so much that I didn't know about certain players. For instance, I now have a new respect for Don Zimmer.... (in case you don't know his story check out #493 in my set.) Also, do you know who got the 1st hit ever in a NY Mets uniform? (hint: see #215, he also had a son and two grandsons that played in the majors). Do you know the 'true' story of Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series? (see #402)

        Happy Collecting!

I agree....this is a great thread and very enjoyable reading. Everyone should check out Tom's 1961 set (LateBloomer). He has some great descriptions on it. It is classic.

My comments are perhaps more combative - because of things I write PSA about and they
        never reply or correct:

for example with 1967 I'll indicate if its a variation PSA has not yet recognized,
58 Paul Schaal "Regular Colored Bat"
        62 Checklist "Tribe" variation

or correct some of the spelling, for example

        they continue to show
196 "John Romano" though the card says "Johnny" or
471 "Rene Lachermann" even though the card says "Rene Lachemann".

It's just sloppy on their part and they're obviously understaffed
        ebay:1967topps
1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards
