Safe to BID maximum @ Heritage Sales?

Anyone know if a bidder puts X amount as MAXIMUM on auction lots (Signature for example), will Heritage bid it up to Maximum or will they honestly sell for next notch up etc.
Comments appreciated.

  • I won a coin for $185 that I had placed a max bid of $400. Seems clean.

    Heritage: Yes
    Certain other auction houses: No!

As long as you do not mind getting stuck with the coin!

We and numerous other dealers I know, submit bids without any concerns or problems in that regard.

thanks for the comments all - much appreciated - although I have never had that "problem" with Heritage per se - it was a passing concern in mind, an episode that is now put to rest image

It was a VAM variety not attributed on the PCGS holder (because PCGS doesn't do VAM's), but someone else recognized it, and I ended up fighting the mystery bidder for the coin. I won. image
