"Big" Sellers... No time to answer questions?

Is it too much to ask that sellers respond to questions about cards that they have up for sale on eBay?

An experience I had last week was with a seller using the ID "worldwideinvestments". Now this seller appears to be very reputable and offers some fine, high-end cards. But when I used eBay's "Ask Seller a question" link to find more specifics about a recent auction, the emails went unanswered.

In my opinion, if people have the time to list items for sale then they should find the time to respond to buyer's queries about those items. Does this sound unreasonable? I'm curious what others think about this subject.

    Yep...I agree with you.

I know this guy has auctioned some amazing cards as of late... and he certainly seems legitimate based opn his inventory alone. But the whole attitude and presentation of his auctions is a big turn-off to me. Seems like he's a lifelong used car salesman who just got a gig selling Ferraris... and doesn't know how to market them or relate to his customer base.

I don't know the seller and this is just my opinion, but you seem to echo it latebloomer.

Just makes me want to spend my meager dollars with a more courteous dealer.

A good example of this is the fact that Joe Orlando takes the time to answer us and some of these dealers cannot. Are they busier than Joe? I think not. I agree, no answer = no bid.
  • I have run into this several times and the bottom line for me is (as stated above) - I don't bid on their crap. I have lost a few cards I really wanted, but in the end, if they don't have the time to respond to a basic question I have, I seriously question their honesty as a seller.

I completely agree. There is a possibility that the email address he has on file with ebay has changed recently, and he isn't getting the email questions (still his responsibility to update it), but I try to answer everyone within a few hours at least, even on my auctions of much smaller scale than "worldwideinvestments".

I recently asked a seller if he had a buy-it-now price in mind for a recent listing (before any bids were placed).

Well, I won the card and promptly PayPal'd. The seller then e-mails with his own inquiry. He wanted to know if I won the card for a higher or lower amount than what I may have been considering for my potential buy-it-now price.

    Go figure?????

I forgot to mention ... that he never replied to my ask-the seller question, but because of his reply after the auction he must have read it.
  • Thanks for the great feedback on my post. As usual I feel like the reply's were top notch and the "no reply = no bid" sentiment seemed to be most wide spread.

I too think that customer service is a rare commodity these days and those that provide it... whether on or off of eBay... will be the business that prosper and continue to receive the most business and repeat customers.

    Thanks again,
    Tom
